Williamsburg Regional Library is expanding its youth offerings into new territory this summer with the introduction of a series of bilingual story times that will be offered in both Spanish and English.WRL will host a total of three all-ages bilingual storytimes for children and their caregivers over the course of this summer. The program will include stories, rhymes, songs, fingerplays, and other activities presented in Spanish and English by two librarians who are fluent in both languages. This new series came about in response to an increasing interest in attending Spanish language programs among members of the community. In addition to serving the many native Spanish speakers who have moved to the area in recent years, the program also addresses the growing desire among native English speakers to raise children who are fluent in more than one language.“We’re so excited to be offering a bilingual story time for the first time, both to connect with our Spanish-speaking community in a new way and to give all our users the chance to practice their Spanish,” said youth services librarian Sara Meldrum. “Speaking two (or more) languages is fun, and it’s good for your brain, too.”
