We took the family to see Moana, this weekend at Dolby Cinema at AMC and it was an experience! It is hard to believe it is animation at times. The ocean in this film is one of the characters and there is no way to describe the way it looks and acts – you just have to see it.
At Dolby Cinema at AMC you will actually feel the sounds of the ocean storms running through your seat – the thunder and crashing waves vibrate through the theater including your reclining leather chairs. It is another element that heightens the already engaging moments.
The kids loved it….both the ability to move their leg rests and seat backs with the touch of a button and feeling the sound move around them and under them! There were a lot of giggles and extra excitement.
The animation of Moana is beautiful – the Oceania island that is home to Moana and her tribe is stunning and the crystal clear screen at Dolby Cinema at AMC is an amazing way to experience it. You could watch this movie ten times and see new things every time. The screen is filled from corner to corner. This movie is worth taking the family to but if there is an Dolby Cinema at AMC near you – go there. (see the list of Dolby Cinema at AMC at the bottom of this post to find one near you)
Moana is from the creators of Zootopia and Frozen and tells the story of Moana who is in-line to be the next leader of her tribe. But due to the demigod Maui’s theft of the heart stone of Te Fiti ( the mother island) – Moana‘s people long stopped navigating the seas and many islands of Oceania. Maui’s thievery caused a progressive death of nature and fear to spread across the ocean. Moana‘s people settled on an island to escape the destruction but the curse has crept to the island killing the plants and driving the fish away.
Moana inspired by her inner-self, her grandmother and the ocean itself, sets off on a sea voyage to find Maui and make him return the heart stone to Te Fiti.
Young and old will take something from this epic tale and laugh along the way. The story is engaging and the animation is soaring – and at Dolby Cinema at AMC both are intensified by the visual clarity and all encompassing sound experience. It really is what a movie experience should be.
Also, if you have not been to a Dolby Cinema at AMC, you are in for a treat from the bathrooms to the snack bar. It is well thought out, clean and inviting. Walk into the theater and you are met with rows of individual leather recliners that make you feel like you are at home. When the movie starts the sound wraps around the theater as you recline back and are totally submerged in the movie.
There is not a bad seat in the house and as you lay back – no one’s head is blocking your view! At one point my daughter crawled into my seat with me. It was more cozy than watching a movie in the comfort of our living room.
Not sure what a Dolby Cinema at AMC experience is like? The sound moves through the cinema and the images are electric – don’t believe me – just watch this trailer for the Dolby Cinematic experience.
Also there is a little funny scene for those who wait through ALL the credits – and why not wait – you will be sitting in a reclining leather chair!
Below is a fun clip from Moana when she meets Maui:
