POP Club at the Williamsburg Farmers Market
Free & Fun for kids ages 4 – 12
Saturdays at the Williamsburg Farmers Market
Merchants Square, Williamsburg VA
HOW THE POP CLUB WORKS: Children, between the ages 4-12 years (parental attendance required):
- Story time begins at 9:00 am. After the story concludes, children are invited to participate in activities. Activities generally take 15-30 minutes.
- POP Club activities are based around nutrition, food, fitness, and agriculture. At every POP Club, you can expect activities such as seed planting, scavenger hunts, and more.
- Children track their POP Club attendance through the POP Passport. We keep the passport at the POP Club tent in the market.
- Participants receive $3 woth of tokens to spend at the market every time they complete both the activity and try the two-bite of the day.
Children will try 2 bites of a fruit or vegetable, and participate in an activity in order to earn POP Bucks ($3) to spend at market.
The Power of Produce (POP) Club provides a fun opportunity for children to engage in our local food system through conversations directly with farmers, educational games and demonstrations, and exposure to new fruits and vegetables. In addition to participating in activities, POP Club kids receive vouchers to spend at the market, allowing them to make their own shopping decisions. The more POP Club meetings you attend, the more opportunities there are to earn vouchers, win prizes, and enjoy activities at the market. POP Club will run from June 4 – September 3, 2022.

The Power of Produce (POP) Club is a nationwide initiative that began in Oregon in 2011. The program seeks to incorporate children ages five through twelve into the farmers market community, and empower them to make healthy food choices. POP Club was launched at the Williamsburg Farmers Market in April 2016, and continues to grow thanks to the support of SHIP (School Health Initiative Program). Every Saturday at 9:30, children are invited to listen to a story read by community partners, volunteers, and local celebrities. Then, they can participate in an activity and sample two bites of a fresh fruit or vegetable. Finally, they receive three tokens each to spend on a healthy snack from the market.
