Williamsburg Regional Library Events & Activities This Week
Youth Events:
April 15 & 16- Baby Lapsit Storytime Baby Lapsit Storytime is a storytime program especially for babies from birth to 18 months and their caregivers. This storytime includes 15 minutes of songs, fingerplays, and lap games. This storytime will feature the same songs and activities every week; this repetition of rhymes and songs forms a foundation for learning for your baby and strengthens the language connections in the brain.

April 15 & 16 – Baby Stay and Play Stay after storytime or just come in for the playdate to chat with other caregivers while your baby has fun with our toy collection. On the first Monday and Tuesday of each month, experts from Child Development Resources will join us to answer your questions about your baby’s development.

April 16 & 17 – Toddler Storytime Toddler Storytime is a program designed for toddlers aged 18 months to 3 years and their caregivers, featuring brief stories, rhymes, songs, fingerplays, and other activities.

April 15, 17, 18 – Preschool Storytime Preschool Storytime is a program designed for preschoolers from 3 to 5 years old and their caregivers featuring stories, rhymes, songs, fingerplays, and other activities.

April 16 – Cena con Cuentos Storytime program for Spanish-speaking families: Cena con Cuentos es un programa de lectura en español para familias hispanohablantes con niños de 0 a 10 años de edad. Cada vez habrán actividades, leeremos cuentos, y disfrutarán de una deliciosa cena para toda la familia. La participación es gratuita. April 20 – Saturdays@Frink: Slime Time! Slime Time! Learn about the science of polymers and create ooey-gooey slime. In this workshop, varied concoctions of slime will stir up in scientific style, and the properties of slime will be tested in a team-spirited Slime Olympics. 10 AM – 1 PM – Abram Frink Jr. Community Center
April 20 – Survival Fest What would you do in a volcanic eruption, an epic battle, or even a flood of molasses? Fans of the I Survived series (and anyone else with an eye for adventure) can find out, all from the safety of the Williamsburg Library. Join a variety of community experts to learn about wilderness survival, what to do in an emergency, and other safety and survival topics, featuring crafts, games, and more. 1-4 PM – Williamsburg Library & Stryker Center
April 21 – Tween Craft Lounge Drop-in once a month for a snack, a craft, and time to hang out with friends. For ages 9-12. 2-4 PM – Williamsburg Library
April 21 – Paws to Read with K-9 Connection Reading is even more fun when you can share it with a fluffy, four-legged friend, and it’s a great way for beginning readers to practice with a patient audience. Drop in to read a story to trained therapy dogs, no registration required. 2:30 PM – Williamsburg Library
Open Art Studio Come paint, draw, create, and explore with a variety of materials in the Open Art Studio. James City County Library

Daily – Come Play at the Kiwanis Kids Idea Studio! Come in from the cold to the James City County Library. Play in a vibrant, engaging area that focuses on the twin literacy skills of reading and play. The Kiwanis Kids Idea Studio integrates our collection with children’s museum-style elements including air tubes, an interactive floor, a giant tablet table, and more! James City County Library
Daily – Story Trail Take a walk outdoors and read a story at the James City County Library’s Story Trail. We invite families to walk from page to page in the green space behind the library. All Day – James City County Library
Teens:
April 26 – Teens Night Out Celebrate the end of the month with friends, games, snacks, music and more! Enjoy all the Teen Room has to offer! For ages 13 through adult, no registration required. 6-8 PM – James City County Library
Now – May 7 – Youth Art Show Exhibit Join WRL in celebrating youth art and creativity in our community! WRL invited middle school and high school students in James City County, York County, and the City of Williamsburg to share one original work of art to be displayed. Exhibit hours: Monday-Friday, 9 am to 5 pm at the Stryker Center
Daily — NEW Teen Room at the James City County Library Check out the brand-new teen room at the James City County Library! This room features fun tech including virtual reality headsets, Nintendo Switches, an arcade game table, and lounge seating. For ages 13-18.

April 17 – Cricut 101 Learn the basics of how the Cricut works and the different things you can make. For ages 13+. No registration required. 11 AM – Stryker Center
April 17 – English Conversation Café Join us for weekly relaxed conversation to practice and improve your English skills. Newcomers always welcome. For ages 16+. 6:30 PM – Stryker Center
April 18 – Opening Reception: America in Black & White The Muscarelle Museum of Art celebrates the opening of their next pop-up exhibition at the Stryker Center, America in Black & White: Depression-Era Photographs from the Farm Security Administration. The exhibition includes selected photographs from the New Deal-era project that created a pictorial record of American life between 1935-1944. Browse the exhibition while enjoying refreshments and live music from the Appalachian Music Ensemble 5-7 PM – Stryker
April 18 – Advanced Oral History Workshop The dinner table, with the entree and sides indicates a meal is going to happen, but it is also the perfect place for an oral history. Find out how your kitchen can be the perfect studio to record an oral history 6:30 – Williamsburg Library
April 19 – Sew a Cloth Napkin With our focus on eco-friendly living, cloth napkins are making a comeback. Learn how to make mitered corners as you sew a snappy cloth napkin. Beginning sewers welcome! Bring your own machine (in good working order) or borrow one of the library’s machines. Space is limited. April 20 – Better Living: Health and Nutrition Education This class is an introduction to basic kitchen tools and equipment and will include a demonstration of simple recipes. Retired Chef Linwood Blizzard will do a cooking demonstration. Anyone is welcome to come take the class; attendance is not required for each class. If you do attend each class, you’ll receive a certificate. No registration is required. 11 AM – Abram Frink Jr. Community Center
April 21 – Writers’ Club: Q&A with NY Times Bestselling Author Deanna Raybourn Wish you could talk to a best-selling author? Need some inside advice about the publishing industry? In our next library writing workshop, we welcome New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Deanna Raybourn. Deanna is the author of the Veronica Speedwell Victorian mystery series. 2 PM – Stryker Center
Makerspace Open! Check out our new creative space at the Williamsburg Library. Explore 3D printers, Glowforge 3D laser printer, Cricut, and sewing machines during walk-in hours. Read more about the Makerspace. Walk-in hours: Mon-Thurs: 1 – 7 PM, Fri: 1 PM – 5 PM, Sun & Sun: 1 – 4 PM.
