A Year of Making 2019

From October 2018 through September 2019, Williamsburg Regional Library is embarking on a Year of Making. The series will be divided into four quarters, each with its own theme.
Quarter 1 — Arts and Crafts (October- December 2018)
Quarter 2 — Technology Lab (January-March 2019)
Quarter 3 — Textiles (April-June 2019)
Quarter 4 — Tech Zoo (July-September 2019)
The Year of Making will conclude on September 21, 2019, with a Community Maker Fair at the Stryker Center. This program will celebrate making and makers, and give users a chance to showcase items made throughout the year. It will also include hands-on activities and demonstrations from the maker community.
All programs are limited to ages 10+ with no exceptions. All programs are free and all materials will be provided. Some programs require registration which will be noted. To register, call 757.259.4050. All drop-in programs will remain open while supplies last.
2/17 — Breakerspace: Gears and Mechanics
Find out what makes clocks tick by taking them apart. Keith Clayton-Kastenholz from Williamsburg Clocks will educate makers in the parts and operation of these and other mechanical items. This is a drop-in program and no registration is required.
2/24 — Video Game Building with Bloxels
Build and play your own 16-bit game with Bloxels tools and software. This program will have one session at 1 p.m., for which registration is required.
3/3 — Meet the Ozobots*
You can command your own robot to follow instructions using colored ink or drag-and-drop code. Race other coders, create a maze for them to navigate, or just have fun leading them around the room. This is a drop-in program and no registration is required.

3/10 and 3/17 — Filming with Green Screen*
Create photos and videos using iPads and green screen technology to put your subjects anywhere. This is a drop-in program and no registration is required. *This program will take place at the Stryker Center.
3/24 and 3/31 — Wearable Technology*
Sewing expert Burnella Owens-Brackett will teach you how to sew a light-up wearable project you can take home. This program will have one session at 1 p.m., for which registration is required. *This program will take place at the Stryker Center.
