SUMMARY:Fresh Views of the American Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Fresh Views of the American Revolution\n\n\n\nDebuting October 18\, 2025 • American Revolution Museum at YorktownOctober 18\, 2025 through May 3\, 2026 \n\n\n\nPart of Admission (local residence get free admission – see here) \n\n\n\nIn honor of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the American Revolution\, the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown will present the special exhibition “Fresh Views of the American Revolution” from October 18\, 2025 through May 3\, 2026. This commemorative exhibit explores America’s 250th through contemporary voices and artistic perspectives. \n\n\n\nVisitors will experience new ways of looking at the ideals and legacies of the Revolution. On view are more than a dozen original paintings by folk artist Oscar de Mejo—created for the 1976 Bicentennial and now part of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation collection—including “The Declaration of Independence\, 1776.” The exhibition will also highlight community art programs inspired by de Mejo’s work. \n\n\n\nAs John Adams reflected in 1818\, the Revolution was not only a political or military triumph but also a “radical change in the principles\, opinions\, sentiments and affection of the people.” This ongoing “living revolution” of ideas remains at the heart of Fresh Views\, encouraging audiences to consider how those principles continue to evolve today. \n\n\n\nLeading up to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration in 2026\, the museum will showcase its Bicentennial-era artworks alongside new\, responsive pieces created through contemporary artists\, community members\, and school collaborations. By placing historic and modern perspectives side by side\, the exhibition invites reflection on enduring themes of liberty\, freedom\, equality\, and revolutionary change—allowing each visitor to draw their own meaning from the American Revolution’s unfinished story. SUMMARY:Outlander: Costumes Woven in Time
DESCRIPTION:Outlander: Costumes Woven in Time\n\n\n\n📅March 6 – May 18\, 2026🕞10 AM – 5 PM📍American Revolution Museum at Yorktown \n\n\n\nCreated in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television\, the special exhibition Outlander: Costumes Woven in Time invites guests to go behind the scenes of the hit television series Outlander for a closer look at the artistry and storytelling behind its unforgettable costumes. \n\n\n\nFeaturing an exclusive collection of 26 hand-selected garments from Seasons 1–4\, the exhibition explores the show’s origins through the acclaimed costume designs of Terry Dresbach. Visitors can journey across continents and centuries through clothing that reflects postwar 1940s Scotland\, the upheaval of the 18th-century Highlands\, the elegance of Paris\, the voyage to early America\, and the cultural shifts of the 1960s. \n\n\n\nFrom the dramatic 18th-century wedding attire worn by Jamie Fraser and Claire Fraser\, to Claire’s iconic red dress from the Versailles storyline and Brianna Randall Fraser’s time-traveling wardrobe\, the exhibition highlights how clothing helps tell powerful stories about identity\, class\, culture\, and craftsmanship. It also showcases the remarkable work of museum tailors who carefully dress living-history interpreters at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown\, bringing early American history to life. \n\n\n\nPaid museum admission is required in addition to a special exhibition ticket. SUMMARY:The Weight of Liberty
DESCRIPTION:The Weight of Liberty\n\n\n\nMilitary Encampment \n\n\n\nThe roar of cannon fire dominated the battlefields of the American Revolution. As early as 1775\, artillerists trained on the exercise of “Great Guns” in Williamsburg\, first under the command of Captain James Innes. The enormous weight and importance of these cannons cannot be understood without having pulled one yourself. Assist soldiers of the 2nd Virginia Regiment and serve as a matross as they haul a “great gun” into position in front of the Public Magazine. Recruits will be trained in the loading and firing of a cannon\, followed by a firing demonstration by the soldiers of the 2nd Virginia. \n\n\n\nThis program is hands-on\, interactive\, and open to all willing recruits ages 6 to 80. Guests must be able to stand for approximately 30 minutes. CW Admission or Good Neighbor Pass More Info

SUMMARY:Spring Art Show: Williamsburg Artist Group
DESCRIPTION:Williamsburg Artists Group (WAG) Spring Sale \n\n\n\nBruton Parish HouseFriday\, May 1\, 4-8 p.m.Saturday\, May 2\, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m \n\n\n\nCome and shop original paintings\, jewelry\, and notecards and a plethora of other fine arts and crafts at Bruton Parish House in Colonial Williamsburg. The Williamsburg Artists Group returns for its popular fall sale. This is a great opportunity to meet the artists behind the art and learn the stories of the paintings and works that you are buying! \n\n\n\nThe event\, to be held on Friday\, May 1\, from 4-8 p.m.; and Saturday\, May 2\, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.\, will feature the work of about 20 local artists.  \n\n\n\n“WAG started in 2018 at the King of Glory church with 20 artists—some who still show their art with us. We have grown to 75 artists now and it’s a great group—we all help each other\,” said Kay Krapfl\, one of the founding members. “Bruton Parish House is one of our favorite venues but we’ve now expanded to the Stryker Center\, the Williamsburg Players Theater\, Busch Gardens\, the Williamsburg Winery\, and other venues as well. This is a pretty good indication that we’ve become known for our diverse and high-quality artwork. \n\n\n\n“Our visitors enjoy talking to the artists and the artists love telling stories about their artwork. It’s a win-win event!” she added.WAG was established in 2018 as a way for local artists to show their work outside a traditional gallery. Sales at Bruton Parish are usually held at least twice a year. WAG has also exhibited at the Stryker Gallery\, part of the Williamsburg Regional Library system\, and the Williamsburg Winery\, and has had sales several times for the past two years at Busch Gardens. This year the artists will be donating 10% of their sales to FISH as a community service. The Williamsburg Artists Group is an independent organization not associated with a traditional gallery.  \n\n\n\nBruton Parish House is located at 331 Duke of Gloucester St.  WAG can be contacted at Wbgartistsgroup.wag@gmail.com.  More art can be seen on their Facebook Page.
