Hands-on Student and Family Tours Enhance Learning Experiences
Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown will offer special admission along with family and student tours September 7-22 during its annual “Homeschool Program Days.” The two museums are administered by the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, an educational agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The homeschool ticket – $12 per family member – provides unlimited admission to both museums September 7-22. Ticketholders also have the opportunity to pre-register at no additional cost for optional student hands-on theme tours or guided family tours of the museums’ outdoor living-history areas – re-creations of a Powhatan Indian village, 1607 ships and colonial fort at Jamestown Settlement, as well as a Continental Army encampment and Revolution-period farm at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. Children age 3 and under receive complimentary admission.
Depending on the age group, homeschool programs allow students to explore Powhatan Indian village activities, join in a fort military drill, or use simple machines to raise sails and cargo on board a ship. At the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, students may learn about the life of a farmer and soldier, decode spy messages or discover the role of artillery, trenches and redoubts in the 1781 Revolutionary War victory at Yorktown.
In addition, at the American Revolution Museum of Yorktown, visitors can take in the ongoing special exhibition, “Blast from the Past: Artillery in the War of Independence,” featuring artillery used on all fronts of the American Revolution by the American, French and British forces.
Tours at both museums address Virginia and United States standards of learning for history and social studies.Based on space availability, families can enroll in guided family tours and student theme tours at each museum, according to age level.

Family Guided Tour at Jamestown Settlement – All ages
Visit re-creations of a Powhatan Indian village, 1607 ships and colonial fort on this two-hour tour designed to introduce the history and cultures of America’s first permanent English settlement at Jamestown, Virginia.
American Revolution Museum at Yorktown Family Guided Tours: Tuesdays and Thursday, September 10, 12, 17 and 19, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Family Guided Tour at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown – all ages
This tour presents an overview of life during the American Revolution, with visits to immersive galleries, a re-created Continental Army encampment and Revolution-era farm. Hands-on activities throughout the tour enhance the story and engage visitors of every age!
The museums are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Jamestown Settlement is located on State Route 31 near the Colonial Parkway in James City County, just southwest of Williamsburg and adjacent to Historic Jamestowne.
