Grand opening for the Kiwanis Kids Idea Studio
James City County Library

There was a major new update (March 21, 2020) at the James City County Library’s children’s section. They have transformed the area in to a more engaging space that combines play and learning. Even though the renovation took place over a year ago the public did not get to celebrate due to COVID. You are invited to the Official Grand Opening!
The Grand Opening will feature opening remarks at 10 a.m., followed by fun activities like barrel train rides, a bounce house with slide, an inflatable obstacle course, spin art, a live unicorn, a wheel of prizes, face painting, family-friendly music, and free sno cones and popcorn while supplies last.
The Kiwanis Kids Idea Studio has interactive structures to keep little hands and minds busy in a “children’s museum” type style. It will make you rethink how a library can allow your kids to interact and still learn.
“Children begin learning literacy skills from birth — well before they even understand what reading and writing are,” Sandy Towers, Williamsburg Regional Library’s Youth Services Director explains, “Play is the chief learning activity of preschool children, and toys and games are their first reading tools. Essentially, play is the most important ‘work’ of children.”
Kids will find air tubes, magnetic ramps, and other opportunities to explore kinetic energy, friction, and inertia, but don’t worry they will never guess they are learning – but they are! There will be a projection wall, LEGO wall, microscope, and virtual reality station all ready to jump start their imaginations. A town area that will include a market with toy groceries, a veterinarian and a house with furniture and accessories so kids can play over and over again coming up with new stories each time.
The Grand Opening is a chance to see it the day its doors are open, so bring your kids for this exciting day. James City County Library is located at 7770 Croaker Rd Williamsburg, Virginia 23188.
