NIGHTRIDE – Saturday January 7 at 5 pm – 8:30 pm
This night ride is at York River State Park organized by the York River State Park Friends Group. Enjoy a bike ride at night. $5 donation to York River State Park Friends Group (parking fee is waived).
Usually, night rides are held weekly at New Quarter Park, Hardwood Mills and Freedom Park from the local mountain bike club, EVMA (Eastern Virginia Mountain biking Association). This one is special to the local mountain bikers as YRSP is typically closed at dusk. With the help from the York River State Park Friends group EVMA was able to receive a special use permit for the event. The event will fundraise for York River State Parks Friends.
This event is a self guided night time mountain bike ride. No limit to participation, though organizers want riders to know that this is not the type of event they would encourage the uninitiated to join.
Folks that attend will check in with a EVMA member at the beginning. They will gather some basic info like name, phone number, party size and of course the five dollar donation for the York River State Parks Friends group.
Equipment for the event – minimum of two separate light systems recommended. Lighting must be powerful enough to illuminate trail for riding and robust enough for mountain bike use – minimum of 1000 lumens recommended. Both a helmet and handlebar mounted light is recommended. Bicycle should be well maintained and ready to ride. Working and operational mobile phone is also mandatory.
