York County Offers FREE Patriotic Concert Series
Tuesday nights in August from 6:30 to 8:00 PM
York County is thrilled to once again partner with the U.S. Air Force, Navy, and Army to provide outdoor concerts for military families and civilians alike. Join us Tuesday nights in August at Riverwalk Landing in Historic Yorktown for our Patriotic Concert Series. In addition to local military bands, this year’s lineup features a little bit of swing and some big band too. Each concert will have a patriotic flair, and leave you proud to be an American.
Each show is from 6:30–8 p.m. and guests are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and coolers. Bring the family and enjoy!
- August 7:The U.S. Fleet Forces “Four Star Edition” Band
Four Star Edition at the Yorktown 100th Anniversary Concert – Composed of some of the U.S. Navy’s most versatile musicians, this high-energy contemporary ensemble entertains audiences of all generations with a refreshing blend of modern hits mixed with a little Latin flavor, some traditional country tunes, and good old fashioned rock-and-roll.
- August 14: The Top Hats Orchestra
The Top Hats Orchestra is Hampton Road’s premier 12-piece swing and dance band. Performing at local festivals and events for more than three decades, the band specializes in songs from the 1940s and 1950s. Guests can also expect to hear newer swing hits including music by Brian Setzer, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and more.
- August 21: U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown Ceremonial Band
The United States Coast Guard Training Center Ceremonial Band, Yorktown is one of only three bands in the Coast Guard. The Training Center Band is an all-volunteer band consisting of Coast Guard students training at Yorktown, permanent party staff, and civilians. The Band provides musical support for many military honors as well as civilian ceremonies. The Training Center Ceremonial Band has played, most recently, for the 4thof July celebration in Yorktown, Change of Command of the Coast Guard Commandant and the International Maritime Officer’s graduation. This ensemble provides honors for visiting dignitaries to the Coast Guard Training Center as well as retirement ceremonies.
- August 28: Royal Atlantic Band
This 5 to 9-piece ensemble is dedicated to performing and promoting the music of the great swing and big band era. Their outstanding arrangements of the big band masters, coupled with the area’s finest musicians, makes for an engaging performance every time they take the stage.
Free parking is available at the Riverwalk Landing parking terrace, York Hall, York-Poquoson Courthouse, County Administration Building, and other public parking lots throughout town.
After opening York County’s concert series, the U.S. Navy Fleet Forces Four Star Edition rock band will perform again that Friday at Naval Weapon Station Yorktown’s Centennial Concert at Kirkpatrick Field. Taking the stage after Four Star Edition will be Parmalee, a country music band consisting of brothers Matt and Scott Thomas, along with their cousin Barry Knox and Josh McSwain. Parmalee will perform starting at 7:30 p.m. York County is a proud sponsor of this very special 100th birthday celebration to honor our local military!
