Event Details

Celebrate the longest day of the year by joining Parks & Recreation for the Longest Day of Play! On June 21, JCC will cater to the sun and offer recreational activities all day long including extended hours at parks and facilities, sunrise and sunset paddles, outdoor yoga classes, and new opportunities to get in on the fun. All programs listed are Free!  No registration required outside of summer camp programs. Scheduled fun includes:

Sunrise Paddle • ages 12+
5:47-7 a.m. Little Creek Reservoir Park
Bring your own kayak or borrow one of ours.

Sunrise Yoga • ages 8+
5:47 a.m. Jamestown Beach Event Park
Begin the day as we cater to the sun!

Kidz Clay Demo • ages 10-15
9-11 a.m. James City County Recreation
Simple clay project for kids to try. All supplies provided.

Cardio Hip Hop • ages 13+
9-10 a.m. James City County Recreation Fitness Studio
A dance-based cardio class designed to get you moving to a variety of hip-hip songs. Sweat out your stress with fun hip-hop.

Hunting through the Past • all ages
10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Freedom Park
Uncover the history of Freedom Park through crafty exploration using historical exhibits, cabins and interpretive signage!

Playground Workout • ages 13+
10:30 – 11:15 a.m. Veterans Park
Let your kids play and get a good work out. This circuit-style class surrounding the playground helps kids to build stamina and strength.

Plants & Pollinators • all ages
10:30-11:30 a.m. Williamsburg Botanical Garden/Freedom Park
Explore the Williamsburg Botanical Garden on a guided tour of plants and pollinators hosted by WBG volunteers! Differentiate native and non-native plant species and the importance of all our different pollinators.

Basketball Skills Competition • ages 6+
11 a.m.-1 p.m. Abram Frink Jr. Community Center
Break out your best basketball skills for this trick and skills competition!

Fishing Demo • all ages
1-2 p.m. Little Creek Reservoir Park
Come learn the fundamentals as you fish from the shores at Little Creek. All equipment provided.

Nature Walk • all ages
2-3 p.m. Little Creek Reservoir Park
Explore the natural beauty the park has to offer!

SS Stability & Balance • ages 55+
1:30-2:30 p.m. James City County Recreation Center Fitness Studio
This active adult class is designed to help you become stronger and improve balance. The movements taught focus on specific exercises to improve strength and power around the ankle, knees and hip joints, while improving reaction time.

Jamestown Discovery Boat Tour • all ages
3-4 p.m. James City County Marina
Enjoy an interpretive boat tour with Captain Corey exploring the history, waterways and wildlife around Jamestown Island.

Ooey, Gooey Fun • all ages
6-7 p.m. James City County Recreation Center
Enjoy slime, water beads and other fun sensory activities!

Family Zumba Party! • ages 6+
6 p.m. James City County Recreation Center
Come join us for a great party! We’ll move, groove and work up a sweat to great music. This family-friendly Zumba class combines fun and fitness using basic dance moves designed for all.

Sunset Paddle with James River Association • ages 18+
6-9 p.m. Powhatan Creek Park to the James City County Marina
Take a leisurely one-way paddle down the Powhatan Creek Blueway by canoe. Guided by the James River Association with shuttle service back to your vehicles, space is limited.

Sunset SUP • all ages
6:45 p.m. Chickahominy Riverfront Park
Come try out stand up paddleboarding while enjoying the beautiful sunset over the Chickahominy River.

Pool Battleship • ages 12+
8:15-10 p.m. James City County Recreation Center (indoor pool)
Work in teams of 3-4 to be the last canoe floating! Bring your own shields for protection (plastic recommended) and buckets to sink the other canoes.

Four Square Tournament • age 8+
8:15-10 p.m. James City County Recreation Center
Throwback to a an old playground favorite! Who’ll claim “king” of the court? Hosted by Williamsburg PickUp Games.

Bats at Dusk • all ages
8:30-9 p.m. Freedom Park
Join the Virginia Master Naturalists for a sunset adventure as they demonstrate how they monitor and document the local bat population. Learn about our most common bats and how they benefit the environment.
