“Tomorrow, we will mark the 22nd anniversary of the September 11 attacks that forever changed our nation.
Twenty-two years ago, soon after the attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, 40 passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93 fought heroically against their hijackers—ultimately thwarting an intended attack on the U.S. Capitol. To honor their brave fight, we invite you to visit the Flight 93 National Memorial in person or virtually.
The Memorial hosts several events where visitors can learn more about and honor the 40 passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93.
In just a short time, donors came together, in partnership with the National Park Foundation, to raise over $40 million to establish, design and construct the Flight 93 National Memorial. These funds helped build the park’s Memorial Plaza, Wall of Names, 40 Memorial Groves, and Field of Honor, as well as supporting reforestation campaigns that have planted more than 136,000 native tree seedlings throughout the park.
You can find out more about exhibits and park events here. Thank you for taking a moment to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice and creating a place of remembrance and reflection for today and for years to come.
Sincerely,
The Team at the National Park Foundation”

Tree Lighting – Victory Monument & Yorktown Waterfront Friday, Dec. 1, 2023Monument Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m.Tree
Yorktown Christmas events kick off with Yorktown’s annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. This community tradition goes all the way back to 1945. That’s the year that Reverend Claud G. Barkley, Pastor of Yorktown Baptist Church, and staff from the County Clerk’s office, decorated a cedar tree that stood at the corner of Main and Ballard Streets. The York County Historical Committee works hard to keep this ritual going! The tree that is used today is a 20-foot artificial commercial “Giant Everest Fir” tree placed down in Riverwalk Landing.
Everyone is invited to gather at the Yorktown Victory Monument by 6:30 p.m. for live music including a performance by the Fifes and Drums of York Town. From there, the procession will make its way from the Victory Monument to Riverwalk Landing, where the tree lighting ceremony will begin. Make sure you stay for a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, eager to hear all those wish lists! More info

The Santa Experience in Williamsburg – Photos with Santa with your kids (and pets)! Book your spot today!
Dates: Select dates November 24, 2023 through December 23, 2023
Pre-Booking is required
Need that perfect picture of your child, family or pet with Santa? Then this event is for you!
How does it work? Sign up for a session. A handful of sessions are scheduled every 30 minutes. (Only 1-2 families will be allowed in the studio at a time). Families over 6 people will need to purchase two time slots back-to-back in order to accommodate the size). Sundays are to be an allergy free day so Santa’s suit will be animal hair free and the studio is as pet free as possible for families with extreme allergies.
Fee and what is included: $65 fee + $3 processing fee includes high resolution digital copies of all photos taken during your session. This is not per child or per pet – it is per session. So you can get multiple shots of each child with Santa, a family picture, kids, pets and Santa…well, you get the picture!
When: This event runs from November 24th through December 23rd and is both kid and pet friendly.
Pet Photos: “Santa Paws” pet portraits will be on select days so please be aware when booking that pets may be present. Families without pets can book on any day. Pets can have photos all week EXCEPT on Sunday. But you have to pre-book (here).
Bathroom: There is a small bathroom onsite but they suggest you come dressed in your clothes prior. It is not large enough for any outfit changes. Guests can use the bathrooms for potty breaks.
Location: Santa’s workshop and photo studio will take place at 439 Prince George Street, Williamsburg VA 23185 which is two doors down from Aromas in downtown Williamsburg and near the Henry Street parking garage.
You might recognize this beloved local “Santa,”…it is Jim Hines, who has been known to thousands of families as the “Yankee Candle Santa” from his years at Williamsburg’s former Yankee Candle location.
Proceeds: All proceeds from this photo event will go back into our wonderful community.
Why Schedule Times: They are scheduling times in an effort optimize families’ Santa experience. Event organizers don’t want long lines at this event and want to encourage families to spend more time shopping, dining and exploring all the wonderful businesses downtown instead. All of Downtown Williamsburg is aglow this season, so enjoy it before or after your session with Santa. Now, what are you waiting for? Book your photo session today!

Whether you’re searching for a holiday gift for family, friends, or as a treat to yourself—you’re sure to find it at the Christmas Market on Main Street! This is one of the most anticipated Yorktown events every holiday season which has been extended to two days (Dec 2 & 3).
Close to 100 vendors line the street this weekend selling everything from nautical paintings to handmade soaps to Christmas wreaths! The Town Crier will ring in the market at 10 a.m. on Saturday, followed by a performance from the Fifes and Drums of York Town to officially open the market. Then, Santa Claus himself will ride in on York County’s first fire truck, before mingling with the crowd to greet families. Expect strolling musical entertainment throughout the day to add to the festive atmosphere. It simply doesn’t get more “Christmas” than this!
Yorktown’s Christmas Market on Main Street is the event shoppers look forward to all year. Vendors, artists, food trucks, strolling musicians, and antique cars line the street in Historic Yorktown. They will have chestnuts roasting on an open fire, free kids’ activities, a performance by the Fifes and Drums of York Town, and even a visit from Santa himself!
The diverse selection of vendors features a little of everything—from alpaca products, to Christmas ornaments and wreaths, to Haitian metal art. Shoppers can search for holiday gifts for family and friends, or as a treat for themselves! Guests can choose from a variety of menu options from Historic Yorktown dining establishments and other food vendors. Selections include clam chowder and soups; BBQ; peanuts & pretzels; nachos; kettle corn; breads and cheeses; and kid-friendly options like hot dogs.
Also, on Sunday from 1-4pm, make sure to visit Santa at Gallery at York Hall with Cookies with Santa! Bring your phones or cameras, and wish lists! Don’t forget to stop inside the Gallery on your way out to pick up unique Christmas presents handcrafted by local artists. The Gallery is filled with local one-of-a-kind art pieces from hundreds of local artists, in all types of mediums.
