Organized in 1971 by concerned citizens, Bacon Street is a private, not-for-profit corporation governed by a Board of Directors representing the four jurisdictions it serves. The program is licensed and certified as an outpatient substance abuse center by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health; and is a member agency of United Way of the Virginia Peninsula. The program is also a charter member of The Virginia Association of Drug and Alcohol Programs.
