AQUATICS
Celebrate Summer at our Outdoor Pools & Splash Pad!
James City County’s two outdoor pools and splash pad are now open! Both are the perfect place for months of summer fun. The splash pad, located at Chickahominy Riverfront Park, features a zero-depth camping-themed aquatic area that features ten spray elements, including ground sprays, rain tunnels, shower sprayers and our Bass Fish sprayers. Located adjacent to the swimming pool, this water feature is perfect for all ages and especially non-swimmers! For locations, costs and operating hours, visit the Outdoor Pools webpage. 

After-Hours Pool Party • All Ages

Before & After School Programs
Waitlist-only registration for REC Connect and Teens on Point (T.O.P.) Summer Camp 2025 is now available.* Registration forms and program information are available online or for pickup at any payment site.  *Note: ALL site locations are full/ have reached capacity. For questions, call 757-259-5351. Before & After School registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis according to space availability. The program, for ages 5-10, operates Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. until school starts and school dismissal until 6 p.m. Registration forms and program information are available for download here or for pickup at any payment site. The program is offered at eight WJCC elementary schools; the James River Elementary School is operated by the Boys/Girls Club, call 757-525-0005 for details. Camp Clay – Mud Pies & Mixed Media • Ages 5-9

Participants can explore examples of pottery forms then design and hand build personalized clay creations, as well as work in additional artistic media! TSA Skate Camp • Ages 7-15

Beginners can learn skateboarding basics while more experienced riders learn advanced techniques. Campers can up their game on and off the skateboard; they’ll learn to build skate ramps, park stewardship, self-expression through skate art sessions, and make friendships that last far beyond the end of camp! Be sure to pack your child’s water bottle, snack/lunch, helmet, pads and skateboard. Discover physics through rocketry, water filtration design and explore solar energy while engineering a solar oven. Fabric Dye Techniques Camp • Ages 12-16 NEW!

Rowers will learn the basics of the boats, rowing technique, and navigation leading to a Camp Regatta on Saturday. This is great preparation if rowers are interested in continuing the sport in the Fall season. Rowers should be able to swim. 4-H Crime Solvers Camp: Curious Case of Dr. Clover • Ages 11-15 NEW!

Step into the role of detective in this mystery adventure! It’s up to you to solve the case – can you crack it before time runs out? While solving puzzles, interrogating suspects, and unraveling clues, develop essential life skills from the 4-H Health Rocks! curriculum, including decision making, stress management and refusal skills. Camp ends with a dramatic courtroom showdown to present the findings. Will the team uncover the truth? In partnership with VCE – James City County 4-H. Instructor: 4-H staff.

Warhill Sports Complex – Outdoor Fitness Court (near basketball courts)
The outdoor Fitness Court® at Warhill Sports Complex is now open! The Fitness Court was funded by a grant from the Williamsburg Health Foundation to provide free access to high-quality workouts and create equitable access to exercise for citizens in James City County. A Certified Personal Trainer will conduct open orientations at the Fitness Court and will demonstrate and explain the seven exercise stations that use body weight for workouts. Stay fit and get your body moving without heading inside a gym and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. Users are encouraged to download the free Fitness Court App in the Google Play or Apple App store. Come explore us AFTER DARK during the full moon each month March-November! Freedom Park closes at sunset; however, Multiuse Trail 3 only remains open for this self-guided hike. After sunset, visitors may use Multiuse Trail 3 only, all other areas of the park are closed. The full moon hikes use an out-and-back one-mile, paved ADA-compliant trail winding through wooded forest and the Colby Swamp. Users must depart Multiuse Trail 3 by the closing time. Take Your Best Shot” Summer Photo Contests • All Ages FREE!
Attention amateur photographers! We’re seeking photographs of park landscapes and scenery, wildlife and of people enjoying our parks. Grab your camera and explore the Greensprings Interpretive Trail, Powhatan Creek Trail, and Jamestown Beach Event Park. Photographs will be judged by the public and selected images will be featured on the County’s website, social media and in the kiosk at the respective park locations. Think of this as a field trip for your school, friends or homeschool group! This hands-on experience allows kids the opportunity to enhance classroom learning in a natural environment. Each program includes instructors and volunteers to help guide learning in the topics listed below. Reservation requests must be arranged at least two weeks in advance and are dependent on staff availability. Program fee is $6 per youth participant (groups of at least five are required) and includes access to the Freedom Park Classroom; large groups of 25 or will be provided a Freedom Park shelter rental included with their fees. Private Free Black Settlement Tour • Ages 12+

Tour one of the first Free Black Settlements in the United States right here in Freedom Park. Come hear historical facts, information about the land and tour the settlement’s dwellings that are historically accurate for the early 1800s. Private tours must be arranged in advance and are based upon staff availability. There is a $20 staffing fee required for each group and the tour takes about 45 minutes. County Park Tours • Ages 16+

Have you been able to visit all the parks that James City County Parks & Recreation has to offer? Join us on select dates to tour the green spaces and park amenities that make our County so special. We will tour many of our major parks and discuss future park plans. Transportation is provided. Plan accordingly to board and unload a 14-passenger bus and walk short distances to tour park amenities. Registration closes one week before each tour date. Weather permitting. 

Riparian Buffer Demonstration Garden Tours • Ages 18+ 
Brickyard Landing 
Tour the park system’s first riparian buffer demonstration garden at Brickyard Landing Park. Learn about the important stormwater implications that riparian buffer provides and see how you can mitigate runoff with native plantings. These same plants can be used on any property where you want to control erosion or soak up excess water. There is a $20 staffing fee required for each group and the tour takes about 45 minutes. Join the NAACP and James City County at America’s First Free Black Settlement in honor of Juneteenth! Enjoy live music, readings and performances as well as a presentation on the history of the Juneteenth holiday. Local vendors and food will be onsite for purchase.

Student Art Show & Exhibit • All Ages
June 21– July 18**
Anne Kushnick’s oil painting and pastel students will display their talents in this annual exhibit, with unique pieces available for purchase. This year’s show will also feature Americana-themed pieces in anticipation of America’s 250th anniversary in 2026!

Spencer’s Ordinary Wreath Ceremony • All Ages FREE!
Saturday, June 28* • 10-11:30 a.m.
Freedom Park
The Williamsburg chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will conduct a memorial service on June 28 in honor of the valiant Ameri­cans who gave their lives in the Battle of Spencer’s Ordinary on that date in 1781. A series of skirmishes occurred in the woods and meadows of Freedom Park between units of Lord Cornwallis and those of the French General, Marquis de Lafayette. Immediately following the Spencer’s Ordinary wreath ceremony, enjoy a presentation on the history of the battle in the Freedom Park Interpretive Center.
THE LOUNGE

Agecroft Hall & Gardens and Wilton House Museum, Richmond
Tuesday, June 10, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; $65/person, $55/Lounge member
James City County Recreation Center
We start with a guided tour of the gardens and then the lavish Tudor mansion built in 16th century England then moved to Richmond in the 1920’s. We will have lunch there then head over to tour Wilton House, built 1753 for William Randolph III. Spots available: 28, registration closes June 3.

Holiday Closures
The James City County Recreation Center and Abram Frink Jr. Community Center will be closed on Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day. All County parks, including park stores/offices, are open on Memorial Day.
