Join acclaimed author Andrew Lawler for a fascinating discussion of his new book, A Perfect Frenzy: A Royal Governor, His Black Allies, and the Crisis That Spurred the American Revolution (Atlantic Monthly Press).
In A Perfect Frenzy, Lawler uncovers the largely untold story of rebellion in Virginia and reveals hidden truths about the American Revolution. The book explores the pivotal role of Lord Dunmore, Virginia’s royal governor, often portrayed as a villain for opposing the patriots and destroying Norfolk. Lawler’s work sheds new light on the roots of modern-day debates around race, gun control, immigration, and the urban-rural divide.

Andrew Lawler, based in Asheville, North Carolina, is the author of national bestsellers The Secret Token, about the lost colony of Roanoke, and Under Jerusalem. His journalism has appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, National Geographic, and Smithsonian. He serves as a contributing writer for Science and contributing editor for Archaeology magazines.
