Known as “Bloody Ban” by many for his brutal tactics during the Southern Campaign, Banastre Tarleton became one of the war’s most controversial figures. Tarleton had his own story to tell is his book titled A History of the Campaigns of 1780 and 1781 in the Southern Provinces of North America. Colonial Williamsburg holds a copy of this 1787 book and now a newly acquired map from that same publication has joined it.
In this hybrid lecture and first-person performance, hear directly from Tarleton himself, portrayed by Mark Schneider, before Katie McKinny, Margaret Beck Pritchard Curator of Maps & Prints, takes the stage to explore the book and the map in depth. Together they examine how Tareton’s reputation was made and what may have been lost in the making. More Info
