Curtis Hanson directed this excellent noir film about scandal, betrayal, and police corruption in 1940s era Los Angeles. The acting ensemble is top notch, with Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, and Kim Basinger all doing stellar work. 2 hrs., 18 min. (R)

When his wife disappears while on a cross-country drive, her husband (Kurt Russell) goes searching for her, but finds the local townspeople strangely unhelpful. This taut thriller was directed by Jonathan Mostow and costars J.T. Walsh and Kathleen Quinlan. 1 hr., 33 min. (R)
