Youth Poetry Contest Deadline
Participants should submit their entry online between April 1-20
Williamsburg Regional Library (WRL) invites students (ages 9-18) in James City County, York County, and the City of Williamsburg to participate in a WRL Poetry Contest. Submit one poem 3-26 lines long; one submission per person. Participants should submit their entry online between April 1-20. Cash prizes will be awarded.
Winners and honorable mention poems may be posted on the WRL web page and read at the awards presentation by either the writer or a designee. Poetry reading and prize presentation is 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30, in the Williamsburg Library Theatre. You do not have to be present to win. Special thanks to Friends of WRL Foundation.
Additional guidelines:
- Contest is open to ages 9-18.
- Contest is for students in James City County, the City of Williamsburg, and York County.
- Poetry can be written in any poetic style and on any subject.
- A poem in its entirety must be an original work by the person entering the contest.
- Only one poem per person.
- All poems must be written in English.
- Contest entries must be at least 3 but cannot exceed 26 lines.
- All entries must be submitted online by noon on Monday, April 20.
- Winners and honorable mention poems may be posted on the WRL web page and read at the awards presentation by either the writer or a designee.
Prizes:
Best overall: $200
Ages 9-11:
1st place: $100, 2nd place: $50, 3rd place $25
Ages 12-14:
1st place: $100, 2nd place: $50, 3rd place $25
Ages 15-18
1st place: $100, 2nd place: $50, 3rd place $25
