Pirates Invade Yorktown -Sat & Sun April 28-29, 2018 – Don’t miss it!
Landlubbers of all ages are invited to visit the Historic Yorktown waterfront to learn lessons and legends from pirates’ lives in the 17th and 18th centuries. There will be hands-on activities, and a treasure hunt for the kids. Explore our pirate encampment, attend pirate school, and witness a pirate trial! Sing along to sea shanties and don’t miss the exciting cannon demonstrations.
Hands-on activities and demonstrations are a big part of this weekend, with 18th century ropemaking, tavern games, shipboard navigation, quill penmanship, black powder weaponry demos (aka cannon firing), chanty sing-a-longs, and much more, throughout both days, from the Watermen’s Museum to Riverwalk Landing.
Yorktown Calligraphy Guild will be there – visit their booth and see how a Pirate wrote letters.
You can even sail the stormy waters of the York River with Captain Mayhem who’s always looking for pint-sized recruits to join his crew. No worries. We doubt he’ll make you walk the plank! While most of the family-friendly fun is free, all schooner sails do require a paid ticket.
Don’t miss the Schooner Virginia, it will make the voyage from its home port on the Elizabeth River in Norfolk to right here on the York River during Pirates Invade Yorktown. Step aboard the 122-foot long schooner to explore and learn more about the history of the magnificent vessel. Deck tours will run from 10-5 on Friday, April 27. That weekend, April 28 & 29, they will run from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Pirates Invade Yorktown events will be held at the Riverwalk Landing and Watermen’s Museum 331 Water Street, Yorktown VA
This is a family friendly -and most of the events are free with exception of sailing vessels in Yorktown Virginia. More info call 757.890.3500 or visit Yorktown’s website.
