ROTARY CLUB OF JAMES CITY COUNTY TO HOST ALTERNATIVE FUND RAISER “FLAGS FOR COVID 19 HEROES” AFTER COVID-19 CAUSES CANCELATION OF 11TH ANNUAL CONCERT SERIES.

The Rotary Club of James City County, like most other organizations, was faced with a tough decision on how to continue to achieve their mission, doing good in our community, in this pandemic environment. Regrettably, they were required to cancel their 11th annual Charity Concert Series which was originally scheduled May through August 2020.

Flags for COVID-19 Heroes

As an alternative fund raiser, they are going to again display 100 U.S. Flags at Veterans’ Park, this time in conjunction with Flag Day (June 14) to honor the hundreds of local healthcare professionals and first responders who are giving so selflessly in the fight against COVID19. The Rotary’s inaugural display of flags surrounded Veterans’ Day 2019, to honor military and first responders, as a gift from the Rotary to the community for its tremendous support.  They are asking those who wish to honor our “front line heroes” to sponsor the flag display including first responders, healthcare personnel and those who were lost to the virus.

Their goal is to match or exceed the $29K they gave the community last year; they need your help. (Recipients: Grove Christian Outreach, Literacy for Life, The Arc of Greater Williamsburg, Williamsburg House of Mercy, dictionaries to 900+ third graders, and high school scholarship winners)

This year, in mid-March when this crisis began, they gave $5,000 each in emergency funding to Grove Christian Outreach and Williamsburg House of Mercy, to help feed their clients. As you know, the demand for essential support continues to grow, with even more clients without work or means to feed their families. While it is unclear how long this pandemic will last, one thing they know for sure is that our community needs our support even more now than ever.

Please consider sponsoring the flag display to support our local community or by making a direct donation to the Rotary Club of James City County Foundation.  All contributions will be recognized publicly through social media.
