Yorktown Boat Parade 2019
Saturday, December 7, 2019: 6-8 pm
If you’re ready to get into the holiday spirit, you’ll want to put this one on your calendar! This is a free event! Watch festively decorated sail and power boats compete for “Best in Show.” The Yorktown waterfront is bedazzled with holiday sights and sounds, including a spectacular floating parade of lights, caroling around a roaring beach bonfire, musical performances and complimentary hot cider.
This annual event has been a community tradition for more than two decades, and brings neighbors together to celebrate the season. Some of the boats take almost 20 hours to decorate!
Centerstage Academy will kick off the festivities before the crowd gathers up and down the beach. The Boy Scout Troop 123 of Seaford will be serving complimentary hot cider. As you sip your festive drink, you can enjoy performances from the Yorktown Chorale and Fifes & Drums of York Town. Both groups will play by the glow of a massive beach bonfire.
Watch the dazzling display of 20 to 25 sail, pleasure, and work boats as they coast down the York River, competing for “Best in Show.” The judges are looking for four things: Wow Factor; Color and Light; Originality and Theme; and Spirit. They rank each boat accordingly to get an average, which determines the winner. Contestants really get into the spirit of the event and many start planning their themes months in advance.
Families are encouraged to bring flashlights to assist in navigation around town at night. In the event weather conditions pose a threat, please call the York County event weather hotline for the most current information at 757.890.3520.
This annual event is free and sponsored by the Yorktown Lighted Boat Parade Committee & Towne Bank.
