Annual Mariners’ Craft Beer Festival to Feature Over 50 Brews With Many Local Highlights
The Mariners’ Museum will host its sixth annual Craft Beer Festival on Sunday, May 6, 2018, from 12 to 5 p.m. In past years, the festival has drawn more than 1,700 people, becoming one of Hampton Roads’ most anticipated and unique craft beer events.
There will be more than 60 craft beers available for tasting from 20 local, regional, and national breweries. Local breweries Alewerks, Bull Island, Oozlefinch, St. George, and Tradition will be returning to the festival this year. Brewery representatives will be at each tasting tent to answer questions. Several breweries will give “beer talks” at intervals throughout the day. Live music will be provided by the Esoteric Ramblers and Hey! Hey! Hooligan. The event is held in the Museum’s outdoor courtyards, which provide a very unique and picturesque setting for the festival.
Returning this year is a “Cask-Off” competition where select breweries will prepare their best version of a cask ale. This unfiltered and unpasteurized beer is traditionally served through a hand pump at around room temperature. Event participants will vote for their favorite cask ale, and the winning brewery will receive a special prize.
Advanced-purchase tickets are $35. Tickets are $45 the day of the event. Non-drinker tickets are available for $15. The ticket price includes a wristband good for 20 four-ounce tastings, a commemorative tasting glass, live music, beer talks, and admission to the Museum for the day. Visit MarinersMuseum.org/BeerFest for tickets.
The breweries represented will include: Alewerks, Bell’s, Billsburg Brewing, Bold Rock, Brothers Craft Brewing, Bull Island, Center of the Universe, Devils Backbone, Golden Road, Goose Island, Heavy Seas, Larry’s Lemonade, Legend, New Belgium, O’Connor, Oozlefinch, Smartmouth, Starr Hill Brewing, St. George, and Tradition Brewing.
