Chippokes State Park Events for April 2024
Chippokes is one of the oldest continually farmed plantations in the country. A working farm since 1619, the park offers modern recreational activities and a glimpse of life in a bygone era. Visitors tour the historic area with its antebellum mansion and outbuildings, stroll through formal gardens, and view antique equipment at the Chippokes Farm and Forestry Museum. They have a campground and four overnight cabins allow visitors to stay on the historic grounds. The park has a visitor center with a gift shop. It also provides opportunities to bike, hike, ride horseback and picnic.

Easter Egg Hunt
March 30 from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. – The Friends of Chippokes, park staff, and volunteers welcome one and all to our annual Easter Egg Hunt.
Jones – Stewart Mansion Tours
April 1 from 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. – This historical building tour is designed to highlight the architecture of the time, designs, furnishings, special touches, ornate decor, and stories within the walls of the Jones-Stewart Mansion. Additional Dates
Bio Blitz Series: Spring
April 7 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. – The Virginia Master Naturalist Historic Southside Chapter will be hosting a guided hike and workshop experience for all experience-levels to attend and enjoy.
Brick Kitchen: Hearth Cooking Demonstrations
April 20 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. AND 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. – What is the oldest way of cooking? Let us travel back in time, to a period where preparing meals and cooking for the entire family was done without the aid of modern luxuries and advancements. Witness just how much hard work, elbow grease, and preparation goes into feeding your loved ones or yourself when it is done by hearth cooking over a wood fire.
Brick Kitchen: Hearth Cooking Interpretation
April 21 from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. – Enjoy historical interpretation inside the Brick Kitchen to learn more about this ancient, practical, and culinary craft tradition that is at the center of European cuisine.
Garden Tea
April 27 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. – The Friends of Chippokes are sponsoring a Garden Tea on the grounds of the Jones – Stewart Mansion. There is no fee other than the vehicle entrance fee.
