They have a map of testing sites or “river stations” throughout the James River watershed.
Is it safe to swim?
A red circle on the map means our last test showed bacteria levels were above the recommended threshold for swimming. A green circle means bacteria levels were below the threshold.
Want to help? Volunteer to test the water!
Volunteers help us track the health of the James by collecting water samples every Thursday between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
