November Art Song Concert: Winterreise
Baritone Suchan Kim and Pianist Peiwen Chen
Williamsburg Library Theatre
November 7 at 2 pm
Opera in Williamsburg’s next program is the November Art Song Concert, which will present one of the most highly-regarded classics: Schubert’s beautiful song cycle Winterreise (Winter Journey), with baritone Suchan Kim and pianist Peiwen Chen.
The song cycle is a setting to music of a set of poems by Wilhelm Muller; it follows a grief-striken young man who leaves the village where his beloved had deserted him for another, and wanders over a wintery landscape which reflects his inner desolation.
The concert will take place on November 7 at 2 PM at the Williamsburg Regional Library theater, at 515 Scotland Street, Williamsburg.
It is presented to our audience as pay-what-you-wish (PWYW), thanks to the generosity of the Williamsburg Community Foundation. The work will be sung in the original German, with projected English translation.
