Reading of the Declaration of Independence

📅Saturday, July 4
🕞9:30 AM – 9:50 AM
📍Capitol Circle

Start Independence Day where history was made. Guests are invited to the Capitol building to hear Thomas Jefferson read the Declaration of Independence, exactly 250 years after it was written.
To help make entry easier, visitors are encouraged to travel light and leave large bags at home or at their hotel. Bag checks and additional security measures may be in place at Colonial Williamsburg venues throughout the day. Larger items such as backpacks, duffel bags, and shoulder bags may be inspected before entry, and luggage or oversized cases are not permitted. Guests can review frequently asked questions for additional tips on planning their Independence Day weekend visit. For more information, see here. This event is free and open to the public.
This event is just one of the many events commemorating the nation’s 250th anniversary. See here for more.
