Explore America’s Story with the Pieces of the Past Challenge

From July 1 through December 31, Williamsburg Regional Library (WRL) invites children and teens ages 5–18 to participate in the Pieces of the Past: 250th Anniversary Challenge, a self-paced Beanstack challenge celebrating the 250th anniversary of America’s founding.

Participants will begin by exploring a historic map of Virginia before choosing from a variety of activities that bring colonial America to life. Read books, visit historic sites, explore library databases, watch videos, take quizzes, and more while uncovering the stories that shaped our nation—and our own community.

The challenge is activity-based rather than reading-log based, so participants earn rewards by completing activities instead of tracking reading time.Along the way, participants can earn:

A commemorative 250th anniversary sticker for registering.

A reproduction historic Virginia mapA collection of 3D-printed colonial buildings modeled after real local landmarks, including the Wythe House, Bray School, Powder Magazine, George Washington’s Command Tent, and more

A special bonus surprise for completing the entire challengeParticipants don’t need to complete every activity—simply complete enough activities within each badge to unlock the next reward.

The challenge is available through Beanstack and runs through December 31, giving families plenty of time to explore history together while discovering books, places, and resources throughout the community.Visit either Williamsburg Regional Library location or sign up through Beanstack at wrl.Beanstack.org to begin your journey through the past today.
