Congratulations to Campbell and Kayleigh Burden! They are our March winners for Kids Make a Difference. Campbell is 11 years old and in 6th grade at Berkeley Middle School, and his sister Kayleigh is 8 years old, in 3rd grade at Clara Byrd Baker Elementary. They are giving their donation to Save the Children. Here is their story:
“We did a hot chocolate stand at our house and at church to raise funds for Save the Children. We had hot chocolate, cookies, pigs in a blanket, marshmallows, and whipped cream. The items were not for sale, but instead each person donated what they could and could take what they liked, no matter what they donated. We did the stand for about two hours at our house on Friday and we did it at our church on Sunday for about 30 minutes. In all that time, thanks to some very generous people, we were able to raise $650.13. That money was used on the Save the Children website to buy, all together: 2 goats, 2 soccer balls, 3 chicks, 4 baby blankets, fish & stuff for a family to be able to catch fish, 2 sheep, 1 donkey, and a cow. We had a blast doing this and we will probably do it every winter.
Thank you for doing this wonderful contest to motivate kids to make the world a better place.”
