Memorial Day Events in Yorktown
1. Grace Church Memorial Day Prayer Service and Ceremony – Monday, May 27 from 10 am – 11:30 am
Join Historic Grace Episcopal Church for a memorial service honoring those who died while serving in the armed forces. The Church is located at 115 Church Street Yorktown.
Historic Grace Episcopal Church (ca. 1697) is holding a Memorial Day prayer service from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, May 27, 2024, to honor those who died while serving in the U.S. armed forces.
After the service, a brief ceremony will be held in the cemetery with playing of “Taps.” All attendees will participate in a hand salute (as appropriate for active duty military/veterans) or with reverence, to the 107 known veterans buried in the Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery, and all deceased men and women who have served our country in uniform. The historic Church Bell (ca 1725) will be tolled 21 times. Following the ceremony, families, friends and visitors may visit the graves.
2. Fifes and Drums of York Town will perform May 27 at 11:45 am
The Yorktown Memorial Day Ceremony will be preceded by the Fifes and Drums of York Town marching to the site at 11:45 am. 301 Main Street Yorktown, VA 23692
3. York County’s Annual Memorial Day Ceremony at York Hall Monday, May 27 at 12 pm
The public is invited to the County’s ceremony in honor of Memorial Day on Monday, May 27, 2024 at the War Memorial located on the front lawn of York Hall, 301 Main Street, historic Yorktown. The program begins at 12 p.m.
Just prior to the start of the ceremony, the Fifes and Drums of York Town will march to York Hall (approx. 11:45 a.m.). Keynote speaker is York County Historical Committee member Tim Smith. A graduate of York High School and the Shenandoah University Conservatory of Music, Smith will speak about the women and men who gave all in defense of our nation.
Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 824, will serve as the Color Guard. Wreath laying will be conducted by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 13, the Comte de Grasse Chapter – Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Moore House Society – Children of the American Revolution.
Military service flags will be presented by the York High School NJROTC, with the National Anthem sung by SMSgt USAF Terry Taylor. The ceremony includes the playing of “Taps.”
