Strengthening Families program for youth ages 10-14 begins on Wednesdays, July 10 and meets for 7 consecutive weeks, ending on August 21, 2019 from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm at James City County Rec Center on Longhill Road. Families must register by the third week, July 24.
This seven-week program that focuses on enhancing positive relationships and communication within your family. Parents and youth (one child must be between 10-14 years old; older siblings may also participate) meet once a week, with sessions consisting of skill building, social bonding activities, games, projects and working together. This evidence-based program has been shown to help youth effectively resist peer pressure and develop a positive future orientation; parents learn and practice limit-setting and nurturing skills. Meals are provided each week as well as childcare for those under age 10, if needed.
