Three Options for Voting in the Nov. 8, 2022 General Election
If you are wondering how to vote this November in James City County, Virginia the following formation is directly from JCC. It gives registered voters in James City County three ways to choose from to cast their ballot for the General Election in November:

Option 3: In-person on Election Day
This option is available to all registered voters who wish to vote at their assigned polling place on Nov. 8. An ID is required.

Option 1: In-Person Absentee = Early Voting
This option is available to all James City County registered voters at the James City County Vote Center, located at the James City County Office of Elections, 4095 Ironbound Road. An ID is required and you do not have to have an application in advance for this method. Dates and hours are listed below.
In-person Early/Absentee Voting
The James City County Vote Center at James City County Office of Elections, 4095 Ironbound Road, is the only designated location in James City County for in-person absentee/early voting.
Saturday, Nov. 5 is the last day to vote by absentee ballot in person at the James City County Vote Center at James City County Office of Elections, 4095 Ironbound Road. The office will be open 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. An ID is required.
If you change your mind and want to vote in-person after you have been mailed a ballot, it is permitted. However, the process will take additional time and the ballot you will be given is the same ballot you were issued in the mail. Voters who change their mind about voting by mail have two options, only available at the James City County Vote Center, 4095 Ironbound Road:
- If you have your ballot, you will be asked to surrender your blank, unopened ballot to the Precinct Chief. They will make their necessary documentation and hand you a new, In-Person ballot. An ID is required.
- If you do not have your ballot, you will be offered a Provisional Ballot. This will ensure that there is only one ballot per person. Provisional ballots are then reviewed and counted at the Canvass by the Electoral Board after noon on Monday, Nov. 14.
Option 2: Mail Absentee Vote at Home Option
This option is available to all James City County registered voters who wish to vote in the privacy of their home. A completed, signed, submitted application is required for this method. Voters can return their voted ballots via USPS, at one of the drop stations, or via commercial carrier (UPS, FedEx, etc.).
Requesting an Absentee Ballot Application
If you have a Virginia-issued DMV ID, you can submit an application online for an absentee ballot: vote.elections.virginia.gov/VoterInformation. Follow the prompts for requesting an absentee ballot. Please note the instructions regarding social distancing for your selections when choosing an absentee option and absentee reason.
To request an absentee ballot be mailed to you, call 757-259-4949.
All Absentee Ballot Applications (PDF) must be signed and dated. Review your application carefully before submitting to this office.
Friday, Oct. 28 is the last day to request an absentee ballot be mailed to you. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Oct. 28.
Printed absentee ballot applications can be returned in person or by mail to the JCC Voter Registration and Elections Office, 4095 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188, by fax to 757-259-4945, or by email as a scanned attachment to vote@jamescitycountyva.gov.
