Civic Season activities are offered daily, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Thursday, June 19 – Thursday, July 4, and are free with museum admission.

Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown join museums and historic sites across the country to host Civic Season, a series of civics-related programs and events to engage younger generations in the role of American democracy.

Civic Season is a time to explore your story – and how it connects to our nation’s complex past – through events, activities and resources from credible sources.

Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, commemorative partners of the VA 250 Commission, are proud to host a series of civics-related programs that engage with history, enduring legacies, and wishes for America’s next 250 years.


“What is your wish for America’s future?”

In the lobby of the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown and the rotunda at Jamestown Settlement, visitors can share their wish for America in the next 250 years.

Drop-in art making & civics activities

Get hands-on and express your thoughts about our national anniversary and the legacy of the American Revolution through art.

Connect some of the grievances against King George III found in the Declaration of Independence to events that took place in Virginia. What happened here that caused Patriots to want to break with Great Britain?

Escape Rooms

Teams will have 45 minutes to collect evidence through puzzles and decide what they would present to a judge in the case of independence.

Juneteenth – Saturday, June 21 

Go to the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, June 14, for thought-provoking history and performances exploring the precarious nature of freedom from 18th-century Yorktown to Juneteenth.

The Juneteenth program reflects on this history, exploring the strategy and complications, and the joys and challenges of ending chattel slavery on the Virginia Peninsula.

Civics Trivia Night – Wednesday, June 24

Join JYF at Precarious Beer Project, 110 S. Henry St., Williamsburg, June 24, 6:30 – 8 p.m., for an exploration of America’s 250th anniversary and civics legacy, testing what you know and discovering how the past still speaks to the world today.

Team up with your friends or make new ones as you show off your impressive knowledge of civics and the American Revolution. The overall first, second, and third place winners can pick out an American Revolution Museum at Yorktown-related prize. Learn more

The following groups are eligible for free admissions:

*Local residents – The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation offers free admission to residents of James City County, York County and the City of Williamsburg, including William & Mary students, with proof of residency. Free admission for local residents.

Military – Free museum admission to veteran, active duty, reserve and retired military personnel and up to three direct family members with military identification on Yorktown Day, October 19 (historical observance); Veterans Day, November 11; Jamestown Day, May 13 (historical observance); and Memorial Day.

Museums for All – The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation offers free admission to those receiving food assistance (SNAP Benefits) through a partnership with Museums for All, a signature access program of the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the Association of Children’s Museums. The offer is valid for individuals and families through SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) and includes up to four visitors per EBT card. Learn more about Museums for All
