American Red Cross Course – Lifeguard Certification • Ages 15+

Become a certified lifeguard and learn how to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. This course includes hands-on training in water rescues, CPR/AED, first aid and emergency response. Participants who complete the course earn a nationally recognized Red Cross certification and are eligible for lifeguard jobs. Strong swimming skills and full participation are required.

School Year 2026-27 registration is underway! All registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, according to space availability. Summer 2026 registration is operating on a waitlist. All summer camp sites are full! The program, for ages 5-10, operates Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. until school starts and school dismissal until 6 p.m. Registration forms and program information are available for download here or for pickup at any payment site. The program is offered at eight WJCC elementary schools; the James River Elementary School is operated by the Boys/Girls Club, call 757-525-0005 for details. A Certified Personal Trainer conducts open orientations at the Fitness Court and demonstrates the seven exercise stations that use body weight for workouts. Stay fit and get your body moving without heading inside a gym and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. Users are encouraged to download the free Fitness Court App in the Google Play or Apple App store. The Fitness Court was funded by a grant from the Williamsburg Health Foundation to provide free access to high-quality workouts and create equitable access to exercise for citizens in James City County. JCCPR Spring Geocaching Challenge • All Ages FREE!
Take on the challenge of finding five new geocaches placed out at our parks! Pick up a brochure guide from the James City County Recreation Center (5301 Longhill Rd.) and make your way around James City County to find all five caches. Geocache coordinates and clues available on geocaching.com. All locations can be found using a smartphone or a GPS tracker. Log all five caches and turn in a completed brochure for a prize. Attention amateur photographers! We’re seeking photographs of park landscapes and scenery, wildlife and of people enjoying our parks. Grab your camera and explore the Greensprings Interpretive Trail, Powhatan Creek Trail and Jamestown Beach Event Park. Photographs will be judged by the public and selected images will be featured on the County’s website, social media and in the kiosk at the respective park locations. Come explore us AFTER DARK during the full moon! Freedom Park closes at sunset; however, Multiuse Trail 3 only remains open for this self-guided hike. After sunset, visitors may use Multiuse Trail 3 only, all other areas of the park are closed. The full moon hikes use an out-and-back, one-mile, paved, ADA-compliant trail that winds through the forest and the Colby Swamp. Users must depart Multiuse Trail 3 by closing time. Riparian Buffer Demonstration Garden Tours • Ages 14+
Brickyard Landing
Tour the park system’s first riparian buffer demonstration garden at Brickyard Landing Park. Learn about the important stormwater implications that a riparian buffer provides and see how you can mitigate runoff with native plantings. These same plants can be used on any property where you want to control erosion or soak up excess water. There’s a $20 staffing fee required for each group and the tour takes about 45 minutes. Freedom Park
The Williamsburg chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will conduct a memorial service on June 28 in honor of the valiant Americans who gave their lives in the Battle of Spencer’s Ordinary on that date in 1781. A series of skirmishes occurred in the woods and meadows of Freedom Park between units of Lord Cornwallis and those of the French General, Marquis de Lafayette. Immediately following the Spencer’s Ordinary wreath ceremony, enjoy a presentation on the history of the battle in the Freedom Park Interpretive Center.
Commemoration of James City County Resolves • All Ages FREE! NEW!

The Williamsburg chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will host a commemoration recalling the James City County Resolves. On July 1, 1774, discussion and enactment of the James City County Resolves took place at Isham Allen’s Ordinary near where the Lightfoot Marketplace and Wawa are located on Richmond Road. The Resolves, which banned all local trade with England, were enacted in support of the people of Boston, Massachusetts, following punitive actions taken by the British Crown following the Boston Tea Party.

Pickleball Skill Clinic: Volleys • Ages 18+

Learn the most important skill in pickleball – the volley! Clinic focuses on improving volley skills, including proper technique for forehand and backhand volleys, proper footwork, prepositioning and volley placement strategy.
Pickleball Advanced Skills Clinic: Roll and Flick Volleys • Ages 18+
Thursday, June 25, 5-7 p.m.; $15
Veterans Park
Roll and flick volleys are advanced techniques used in higher-level play. These skills allow you to attack low balls, adding top spin to hit balls harder and more precisely than when using traditional volleys. Develop the necessary techniques and determine the best times to use them with the coach and the pickleball machine to build the skills. For students who have already completed the JCC volley skill clinic, or students who already have well-developed volley skills.
