Yorktown Sounds of Summer at the Riverwalk – Thursdays Concerts 2023 – Starts June 1, 2023
Sounds of Summer Concerts starts this Thursday June 1 with The Uptown Band!
Thursday Evenings 6:30-9 p.m. June 1 through August 10, 2023 – Summer in Yorktown wouldn’t be summer without the sound of live music and dancing feet on the Riverwalk Landing every Thursday night. This annual outdoor concert series is free and open to the public and runs from June through August. Each show runs 6:30 to 9 p.m. and the lineup features an eclectic mix of Beach Music, Motown, Pop, and R&B. More information and full schedule here

Reign & Rebellion Immersive Special Event ‘WHO CONSPIRES?’ Returns to Jamestown Settlement After Dark on June 2 & 3 – for ages 12 and up!
“WHO CONSPIRES?” is an immersive escape-room murder-mystery that plays out in the museum’s re-created 1610-14 fort after dark, 8-9:15 p.m. As the sun sets, ticketed guests can race against the clock to explore three re-created buildings to solve puzzles, question suspects and seek clues to solve a mystery and protect the fort. Saturdays in June from 8 am to noon – Yorktown Market Days Farmers Market runs every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.* through the end of October (except May 6 & Oct. 7). The Heritage Humane Society and James City County Parks & Rec want pet lovers to get active with their pets! Start at Greensprings Interpretive Trail for a self-guided adventure of the trails! They will have music, a trail scavenger hunt, & adoptable dogs, Dogs must be leashed and under owners’ control. Don’t have a dog to walk the trails with? On Saturday, June 3rd and Sunday, June 4th, 2023, the May 24, 1864 victory of United States Colored Troops over attacking Confederate Cavalry comes to life in the “Action at Wilson’s Wharf” at Fort Pocahontas on the James River. Each year we remember the contribution of US Colored Troops to the Federal war effort, and we honor a turning point in our nation’s history when USCTs were tested in battle, becoming symbols of freedom and strength for future generations.
- Spectators have the opportunity to tour camps within the well-preserved fort.
- Battle reenactments take place each afternoon.
- Sutlers offer reproductions of Civil War-era merchandise.
- Period music provided by Harken Back String Band.
- Food vending by Don Chido food truck.
- Other family-friendly living history activities include

VIMS Marine Science Day
Saturday, June 10, 2023 10 a.m.-3 p.m. – VIMS Marine Science Day is fun and educational for all ages. Visitors can examine high-tech science equipment, tour a laboratory, collect and observe aquatic animals in the York River, and discover the importance of wetlands in VIMS’ Teaching Marsh. 4th annual FURever Homes 8k, 5k, and Pet Run

The annual FURever Homes 8k, 5k, and Pet Run supports local homeless pets in need will be held on Saturday, June 10. This event is for runners and walkers of all ages and fitness levels. There will be an 8k, 5k, and 1-mile run/walk. All proceeds from the event will benefit Heritage Humane Society. More info

York River State Park June Events
There are so many events going on at YRSP in the summer. Here is one of our favorites…Mysterious Moonlight Canoe Tour June 3 from 7:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. York River State Park Amphitheater Explore the marsh at night as you paddle up its placid waters. Various creatures may be seen in the creek or along the shoreline, while bats fly above in the night sky. You may even experience owls calling at a distance. Take it all in as the light of the moon blankets the surroundings with mystery. Reservations with pre-payment only. Canoes – $13/person or $8/person (family of 4+).
