So, what’s playing on DoG Street this month? Live theater, that’s what and it happens through out the year in Colonial Williamsburg. These shows are very interactive and focus on an historical event with discussion on how the community is responding. Here are the newest offerings. 1776: The Trial for Independence

A fair trial is a cherished British right. Guests are invited to step in as witnesses as Independence itself is put on trial—and Virginia, with a single vote, determines the fate of a nation. For more information, see here.

November 1775. A proclamation declaring martial law has been placed in Virginia. Join the community as they confront the choices of an old promise fulfilled.

Beat the Retreat

The whole Companies of the Battallion as Well as the Regiment are always to fall in upon the Parade at Revelle Beating and Retreat Beating with their Arms & ammunition to have their Rolls Called and Remain upon the parade until further orders. – Orderly Book of the Second Virginia Regiment, 1775.
As the sun sets, so too does the day of a soldier. Observe the soldiers of the 2nd Virginia Regiment as they end their day with a Regimental Retreat. Witness as the men are inspected by their officers, and listen as the rolls are read and orders of the day are given. Be sure to pay attention to the parole (password) for the day. Join the men as they march back towards their regimental headquarters at the College Camp. More Info

Spring 1776: Williamsburg is at war, and Colonel William Woodford needs your help. Guests of all ages will heed the call to arms and join the 2nd Virginia Regiment. Falling in at the Magazine, recruits will be briefed on the war to date before being trained to march, drill, and train in the manual exercise. Captain William Taliaferro will inspect the company as they prepare to defend American liberty, by force if necessary.
Under Arms: Join the 2nd Virginia Regiment is a participatory program. Guests must be able to stand for at least 25 minutes. The program is open to all would-be soldiers ages 6 to 80. More Info
