Shark Day at Virginia Living Museum on July 13
Sharks play a vital role in keeping our oceans healthy—come celebrate these incredible creatures and learn how you can help protect them at the Virginia Living Museum on July 13, 2025 from 9 am – 5 pm!
Guided Shark Activities:
- Biofluorescence Station – Learn how deep-sea sharks emit a green glow (World of Darkness)
- Shark & Ray Conservation Table – View real biofacts and discover how to protect these animals
- Shark Tooth Dig & Necklace Craft – Search for shark teeth in sand and create a necklace or bracelet
- Shark Keeper Talk – 11:30 AM – Meet our resident chain dogfish shark
- Shark Toss Game – Try to toss prey into a shark’s jaws
- Chesapeake Bay Aquarium Feeding – 2:30 PM – Learn how sharks use the bay as a nursery and feeding ground
- VIMS Station – Discover shark research happening in Virginia and try your hand at being a shark scientist
On Your Own Activities (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM) Located at the How Life Survives desk
- Shark Scavenger Hunt – Explore the museum to find hidden sharks and conservation tips
- What Kind of Shark Are You? – Match your personality to one of the ocean’s many shark species
