On October 9, Colonial Williamsburg will celebrate the dedication and grand opening of the African Baptist Meeting House—the historic first permanent location of Williamsburg’s First Baptist Church.
As one of the oldest African American congregations in the country, the church marks its historic 250th anniversary this autumn. The public is invited to join in a moving community celebration alongside church leadership and members of the descendant community to honor this incredible legacy. 🙌🌾
The occasion will also feature a special appearance by Colonial Williamsburg’s newest Nation Builder portraying Gowan Pamphlet, Brandon Lee! A descendant community member and former Foundation junior interpreter and Fife & Drum member, Brandon officially steps into the role of Pamphlet following James Ingram’s retirement. 🥁
