York High School Fine Arts Department Presents: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

A musical tale of six quirky, middle schoolers that compete for a spelling bee championship. As each contestant takes the stage, they share personal stories filled with humor, insecurities, and dreams, revealing that the competition means much more than just winning. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for anyone 18 and under (at the door only).

The story follows Sophie, a young woman preparing for her wedding on a Greek island. As the wedding approaches, Donna is forced to confront her past relationships, and chaos, humor, and heartfelt moments unfold.
Set to ABBA’s iconic songs like “Dancing Queen” and “Take a Chance on Me,” the musical celebrates love, friendship, and self-discovery, ending with joy, surprises, and plenty of dancing.

When disco diva, Deloris Van Cartier, witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won’t be found: a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but, in doing so, blows her cover. Soon, the gang is giving chase, only to find them up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood.
Filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing and a truly moving story, Sister Act will leave audiences breathless. A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, Sister Act is reason to REJOICE!

Walsingham Academy presents ‘Bye Bye Birdie’

Bye Bye Birdie is a musical comedy about rock star Conrad Birdie, who gets drafted into the U.S. Army at the height of his fame. To cash in before he leaves, his manager Albert Peterson and Albert’s girlfriend Rose Alvarez plan a huge publicity stunt: Birdie will give one lucky teenage fan a televised goodbye kiss.
They choose Kim Macafee from Sweet Apple, Ohio, but the stunt turns the quiet town upside down. Kim’s boyfriend gets jealous, teens go wild over Birdie, and tensions rise between Albert and Rose. In the end, the chaos forces everyone to confront what they really want, leaving Sweet Apple forever changed.
