Sept. 18: Romancing the Stone (1984) PG A reclusive writer of romance novels (Kathleen Turner) is forced to team up with a roguish mercenary (Michael Douglas) in order to locate a treasure in South America and rescue her kidnapped sister. This excellent adventure-comedy costars Danny DeVito and was directed by Robert Zemeckis. 1hr 46min

Sept. 25: Ninotchka (1939) NR A dour soviet apparatchik (Greta Garbo) on assignment in France soon finds herself falling under the romantic spell of Paris and a local charmer (Melvyn Douglas). With Garbo starring, Ernst Lubitsch directing, and a script by Billy Wilder and Charles Brackett, this comedy is a true delight. 1hr 50min

Unfortunately, her new life is threatened by a murderous conspiracy over a large inheritance. Oct. 9: Between Two Worlds (1944) NR Following the WWII bombing of a British town, a group of people find themselves on a luxury liner bound for… where? This thoughtful, intriguing film posits the afterlife as a time when the moral choices you made in life are examined and judgment rendered. The great cast includes John Garfield, Paul Henreid, Eleanor Parker, and Sydney Greenstreet. 1hr 52min

Oct. 16: Defending Your Life (1991) PG Following his death, a man (Albert Brooks) finds himself forced to defend his actions in life in this satirical romantic comedy. Meryl Streep plays an affable afterlife love interest. Rip Torn and Buck Henry star under the direction of Albert Brooks, who also penned the script.  1hr 52min

Oct. 23: Return from the Ashes (1965) NR A greedy gigolo (Maximilian Schell) marries a wealthy Jewish doctor (Ingrid Thulin) and inherits her money following her supposed death in Dachau. When she returns following the war to find him seducing her stepdaughter (Samantha Eggar), trouble ensues. This dark thriller was directed by J. Lee Thompson. 1hr 45min

Oct. 30: My Favorite Wife (1940) NR Nick Arden (Cary Grant) just got married. Unfortunately, his first wife, believed to be deceased, suddenly shows up, putting a massive damper on the honeymoon. Irene Dunne and Randolph Scott costar in this screwball comedy directed by Garson Kanin. 1hr 28min
