Join Historic Grace Episcopal Church in Yorktown at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2022 for a Veterans Day prayer service in the historic church.
Join Historic Grace Episcopal Church in Yorktown (ca. 1697) at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2022 for a Veterans Day prayer service in the historic church. Following the service, attendees will proceed to the churchyard for a brief ceremony that will include the playing of “Taps” and a hand salute (as appropriate for active duty military/veterans) or with reverence, to the 107 known veterans buried in the Grace cemetery and all deceased men and women who have served our country in uniform. Those at rest in this historic cemetery include veterans who served in the Revolutionary War, Civil War, both World Wars, Cold War, Korean War, and Vietnam. All graves of known veterans have a veterans marker and U.S. flag. The historic church bell (ca. 1725) will then be tolled 21 times as part of the nationwide “Bells of Peace” initiative.

York County’s annual Veteran’s Day program honors members of our armed forces.
The public is invited to the annual Veteran’s Day program next Friday (11/11) at 12 p.m. in York Hall (301 Main Street). Sponsored by the York County Historical Committee, the ceremony honors the members of our armed forces. This program is being recorded and replayed on WYCG-TV (Cox 46, Verizon 38) along with other special Veterans Day programming shown throughout November.

4th Annual Veterans’ Art Show
On the Hill Gallery & Yorktown Arts Foundation
November 3 – 19, 2022
This annual event showcases artwork created by active military and veterans living in the Peninsula and Tidewater region. In celebration of Veterans Day, On the Hill Gallery and the Yorktown Arts Foundation are presenting a special exhibit showcasing artwork from those who have served. If you are a military veteran who creates art, consider entering up to two pieces in the show. Categories are two and three dimensional art and photography.
On the Hill Gallery and the Yorktown Arts Foundation will be showcasing artwork from active duty and those who have served in the military in a juried show with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners recognized with awards. If you are serving or have served in the military and create art, we would like to display your artwork in our gallery in honor of Veterans Day. You may enter two pieces. There is no entry fee and the exhibit is free and open to the public. You do not need to be a member of the Yorktown Arts Foundation to enter. Categories are two and three dimensional art and photography.
Drop off your work between October 29-30 at On the Hill Gallery, located at 402 Main Street, Yorktown, VA The exhibit will open on November 3rd with a reception November 5th from 6:00-8:00pm welcoming the artists, their friends and family as well as the public. Free Lecture: “Old Ironsides” America’s Ship with Guest Speaker Chris Melhuish

During this free lecture presented by the York County Historical Committee, Retired U.S. Navy Captain Chris Melhuish will tell the story of the famed warship USS Constitution, also known by her nickname “Old Ironsides.” Launched in 1797, she is the world’s oldest commissioned ship still afloat. Registration is not required.
