National Fossil Day

Help Virginia Living Museum celebrate National Fossil Day (observed October 15, 2025) by exploring their fossil collection and searching for your own fossils to take home!

Events of the Day:

• Ongoing Collections Tours – Discover the incredible artifacts that showcase Virginia’s natural resources.
• Virginia’s Climate Past – Learn about Virginia’s prehistoric environments and see a variety of fossils, including our state fossil.
• Fossil Dig – Search for shark teeth, corals, and other marine fossils from millions of years ago.
• Meet a Mastodon – Interact with real mastodon fossils and replicas while learning about Ice Age ecosystems.
• Fossil Identification – Bring in your own finds and have them identified by our experts.
