Shark Day

Dive into the fascinating world of sharks! Sharks are more than just predators; they’re crucial to the health of our oceans. Join us for a fin-tastic event where you’ll learn all about these incredible creatures and discover how you can contribute to their conservation.

Get ready for a jaws-dropping adventure:

  • Photo Opportunities: Strike a pose with our larger-than-life shark displays, including inflatable shark jaws, a shark cage, a megalodon shark jaw, and a shark cutout and platform.
  • Shark Scavenger Hunt – Explore the museum to find hidden sharks and conservation tips
  • What Kind of Shark Are You? – Match your personality to one of the ocean’s many shark species
  • Dig for Megalodon Teeth! – A few lucky people each day will unearth a Megalodon tooth* in the outdoor dig pit located on the Conservation Lawn (*teeth are replicas)

Guided Activities (10:00 AM – 2:00 PM unless noted)

  • Biofluorescence Station – Learn how deep-sea sharks emit a green glow (World of Darkness)
  • Shark & Ray Conservation Table – View real biofacts and discover how to protect these animals
  • Shark Tooth Dig & Necklace Craft – Search for shark teeth in sand and create a necklace or bracelet
  • Shark Keeper Talk – 11:30 AM – Meet our resident chain dogfish shark
  • Shark Toss Game – Try to toss prey into a shark’s jaws
  • Chesapeake Bay Aquarium Feeding – 2:30 PM – Learn how sharks use the bay as a nursery and feeding ground
  • VIMS Station – Discover shark research happening in Virginia and try your hand at being a shark scientist
  • Virginia Aquarium – Learn about shark conservation with hands-on activities and biofacts featuring shark biodiversity.

Cold-Blooded Behind-the-Scenes Tour Take a special tour to see how we care for cold-blooded creatures, including sharks.
Ages 8+ | Limited to 10 guests
Tickets: $30 public / $25 members – Note: Tour is not wheelchair accessible. MORE INFO & BOOKING
