“May 15 was a pivotal date in Virginia’s revolutionary history, and an important milestone in our commemoration of America’s Semiquincentennial this year. On May 15, 1776, a group of revolutionary leaders known as the Fifth Virginia Convention voted unanimously — right here at the Capitol building — to call on the Second Continental Congress to declare independence for all 13 colonies and form a new nation. The stakes were high; Virginia was the largest, most powerful and most prosperous of the 13 colonies, and its choices would shape the actions of every other. It was this historic vote, cast right here in Williamsburg, that directly led to the debate, drafting and signing of the U.S. Declaration of Independence.

To mark the 250th anniversary of this historic event, come for a groundbreaking live theatrical performance unlike anything the Foundation has produced before. Written and directed by Nation Builders Katharine Pittman (Martha Washington) and Kurt Smith (Thomas Jefferson), The Flame of Revolution is a multimedia experience blending live action with digital projections to tell the story of a new, independent Commonwealth and the origins of a new nation.” exerpt from a letter from Cliff Fleet, President of Colonial Williamsburg Foundaion

Experience this once-in-a-lifetime multimedia event that will blend live performance and digital projections to tell the story of our nation’s founding like never before. Our historic street will come to life in grand fashion as we celebrate Virginia’s independence with music and revelry! More Info
