Williamsburg: The Story of a Patriot brings to life the pivotal moment in May 1776 when Virginia’s political leaders–among them Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, and George Washington–debated the future of the colony and ultimately chose the bold path toward independence. Their decision risked everything as Virginia moved from a British colony to a Commonwealth within the emerging United States.
The story is told through the eyes of John Fry, a fictional Virginia planter portrayed by Jack Lord, who is elected to the House of Burgesses and witnesses Virginia’s essential role in the fight for independence. When first released, the film broke new ground by using cutting-edge technology, including Paramount Studios’ VistaVision cameras and Todd-AO six-channel sound, to immerse visitors in the places and moments they would encounter throughout Colonial Williamsburg.
