Family Frights Returns to Jamestown Settlement October 24 & 25 for a Night of Kid-Friendly Halloween Fun
“Family Frights” at Jamestown Settlement, a Halloween-themed night at the museum, returns with a not-so-scary good time on Friday and Saturday, October 24 and 25, from 6 to 9 p.m. Don’t be afraid – this weekend is more TREAT than TRICK and filled with family-friendly fun for all ages!
As the sun goes down, the magic begins as Jamestown Settlement transforms to offer a one-of-a-kind, fantastical (without the fright) event full of “Stories, Myths and Legends” featuring trick-or-treating, creative crafts and games, festive music and face painting, haunted houses and spooky ships. Museum by day, spooktacular experience by night, outdoor areas change costumes into festively decorated Halloween-themed scenes perfect for little ghosts and ghouls to have a frightfully fun adventure without getting too scared.
Start by getting a taste of what’s to come with an array of giant sweet treats that greet visitors at a candy-themed check-in, then pass by opportunities for face painting and ghostly games. Enter the outdoor areas through the enchanted forest where mermaids and mythical creatures roam free. Sing-along with spooky songs from the Cigar Box String Band and join in the faerie festival along the riverfront featuring pixies, sprites, nymphs and other pointy-eared creatures.
Haunting story tales from Greg Glewwe and the electric sounds of the theremin played by Caroline Scruggs echo from the re-created fort, as smoke, lanterns and sound effects create a captivating setting fit for the royalty of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. With riches come thieves, so stay on the lookout for Robin Hood and his very merry men. At the ships’ pier, Vikings have commandeered the Discovery, while King Neptune and his sea creatures battle the crew of the Godspeed. Children are invited to wind their way through a mesmerizing maze with the help of Peter Rabbit as he escapes from Mr. McGregor’s garden.
