Important Information for Early Voting and Election Day

April 21, 2026 Special Election

Notice: The state of Virginia, including City of Williamsburg, is having a special election that will take place on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 with Early Voting beginning on Friday, March 6, 2026. The ballot will consist only of a single proposed amendment that voters may vote “Yes” or “No” on.

Early Voting

Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through April 17.
The office will also be open two Saturdays: April 11 and 18 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 
Municipal Building at 401 Lafayette St.
City of Williamsburg voters can cast their ballots at the Voter Registrar’s Office, located in the Municipal Building at 401 Lafayette St.


Election Day Voting

Polls will be open for the Special Election from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 21
Voting does not take place at the Municipal Building on April 21. Instead, voters cast their ballots at their designated polling place. To see a precinct map for polling locations on Election Day, visit williamsburgva.gov/vote.


Absentee Ballots

Absentee ballots can be requested through the Virginia Department of Elections website or by calling 757-220-6157. They can be returned to a dropbox outside the front doors of the Municipal Building or through the mail; postage is prepaid. The last day to request an absentee ballot for the Special Election is Friday, April 10, 2026.
