Youth Events:
September 30 & October 1 – Baby Lapsit Storytime Baby Lapsit Storytime is a storytime program especially for babies from birth to 18 months and their caregivers. This storytime includes 15 minutes of songs, fingerplays, and lap games.

September 30 &October 1 – Baby Stay and Play Stay after storytime to chat with other caregivers while your baby has fun with toys. On the first Monday and Tuesday of the month, experts from Child Development Resources will answer your questions about your baby’s development.

Tuesday, October 1 – Cena con Cuentos Storytime program for Spanish-speaking families: Cena con Cuentos es un programa de lectura en español para familias hispanohablantes con niños de 0 a 10 años de edad. Cada vez habrán actividades, leeremos cuentos, y disfrutarán de una deliciosa cena para toda la familia.

Friday, October 4 – WYO Meet the Instruments Join musicians from the Williamsburg Youth Orchestra for a fun, interactive program where kids can explore a variety of musical instruments! Get up close with strings, winds, and brass, and discover the joy of making music. 11 AM – Williamsburg Library
Saturday, October 5 – Saturdays @ Frink: GLOW-IN-THE-DARK Pillow Make your own glow-in-the-dark pillow. Space is limited and registration required. Please call (757) 741-3324 to register. This program is for 5+. 10 AM – 1 PM – Abram Frink Jr. Community Center
Saturday, October 5 – Preschool Dance Party – What do you get when you add balloons and bubbles to music? A fantastic preschool dance party! Put on your dancing shoes and join us for an exciting hour of songs, movement, rhymes, and just plain fun. Parents, it’s a great time for you to share your best moves with your little ones as well. 11 AM – Stryker Center
Sunday, October 6 – Quiet Time for the Spectrum – Enjoy the library before hours in a quieter, less stimulating environment for people with autism and sensory issues. 12-1 PM – James City County Library
Sunday, October 6 – Pigeon Party! Storytime & Craft Mo Willems fans: join us for a special storytime featuring everyone’s favorite pigeon! You’ll help convince him to take a bath, keep him from driving the bus, and more. A pigeon craft and snack will follow storytime. Space is limited; pick up your tickets at the Youth Services desk a half hour before the program. 2 PM – Williamsburg Library
Daily – Come Play at the Kiwanis Kids Idea Studio! Come in from the cold to the James City County Library. Play in a vibrant, engaging area that focuses on the twin literacy skills of reading and play. The Kiwanis Kids Idea Studio integrates our collection with children’s museum-style elements including air tubes, an interactive floor, a giant tablet table, and more! James City County Library
Daily – Story Trail Take a walk outdoors and read a story at the James City County Library’s Story Trail. We invite families to walk from page to page in the green space behind the library. All Day – James City County Library

Friday, October 4 – Hand Sew a Mini Ghost – Practice your hand-sewing skills and make an adorable stuffed felt ghost just in time for spooky season! For ages 13+. Space is limited; please call (757) 741–3300, option 2 to register. 3 PM – James City County Library
Daily — Teen Room at the James City County Library Check out the brand-new teen room at the James City County Library! This room features fun tech including virtual reality headsets, Nintendo Switches, an arcade game table, and lounge seating. For ages 13-18.
Adult:
Wednesday, October 2 – Advances in Forensic Chemistry for the Courtroom Forensic chemistry analysis is essential in criminal evidence analysis and court proceedings. This includes the use of fingerprints to identify suspects. Incomplete prints, called fingermarks, are often not useful to identify individuals, but a new chemical technique shows promise in understanding their composition. This technique separates compounds found in sweat and generates visual data useful when presenting forensic evidence to a jury. In this talk by Emma Macturk, master’s student in chemistry at William & Mary, learn the science behind forensic analysis that could decide outcomes of criminal investigations. 2 PM – Stryker Center
Saturday, October 5 – Sewing Saturday: Plastic Bag Holders Make your own plastic bag holder that you can store inside your cabinets. All materials will be provided. Saturday, October 5 – Glowforge Halloween Sign Make your own spooky Halloween sign! Using pieces produced on the laser cutter, we’ll paint and glue a layered design with a seasonal feel. We’ll provide the pieces and the paint. You bring the smock and the Halloween spirit! For ages 18+. Registration required; call (757) 741-3300, option 2 to register. Saturday, October 5 – Tombs and Memorials of Bruton Parish Church Join Lianne Johnson Boller, author of the revised The Tombs and Memorials of Bruton Parish Church, as she discusses her research that led to the updated edition of her book. 3 PM – Williamsburg Library Theatre
Makerspace Open! Check out our new creative space at the Williamsburg Library. Explore 3D printers, Glowforge 3D laser printer, Cricut, and sewing machines during walk-in hours. Read more about the Makerspace. Walk-in hours: Mon-Thurs: 1-5 PM, Sat & Sun: 1-5 PM on the 4th weekend of the month.
Updated September. 17, 2024: Free Covid tests are available at both library buildings! Ask a WRL staff member for a kit (limit 2 per person) or call to schedule a curbside pickup at 757.741.3300, option 1. A library card is not required.
