Youth Events:
Preschool Storytime a program designed for preschoolers from 3 to 5 years old and their caregivers featuring stories, rhymes, songs, fingerplays, and other activities.

Baby Lapsit Storytime – is a storytime program especially for babies from birth to 18 months and their caregivers. This storytime includes 15 minutes of songs, fingerplays, and lap games. This storytime will feature the same songs and activities every week; this repetition of rhymes and songs forms a foundation for learning for your baby and strengthens language connections in the brain.

Baby Stay & Play – Stay after storytime or just come in for the playdate to chat with other caregivers while your baby has fun with our toy collection. On the first Monday and Tuesday of each month, experts from Child Development Resources will join us to answer your questions about your baby’s development.

Toddler Storytime – a program designed for toddlers aged 18 months to 3 years and their caregivers, featuring brief stories, rhymes, songs, fingerplays, and other activities.

Open Art Studio – Come paint, draw, create, and explore with a variety of materials in the Open Art Studio. James City County Library

Feb. 8– Finger Play – Let’s get those fingers working! Finger Gym is a new program focused on building fine–motor skills like cutting, twisting, and writing through a variety of Valentine’s Day-themed activities. An adult caregiver must accompany each child. For ages 3–7. 6-7 PM – James City County Library
Feb. 11 – Saturdays @ Frink: Pop-N-Play – Drop by anytime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to make holiday cards and a felt bag. Materials are provided. For ages 8 and up. 10 AM – 1 PM – Abram Frink Jr. Community Center



Ongoing – Come Play at the Kiwanis Kids Idea Studio! Come in from the cold to the James City County Library. Play in a vibrant, engaging area that focuses on the twin literacy skills of reading and play. The Kiwanis Kids Idea Studio integrates our collection with children’s museum-style elements including air tubes, an interactive floor, a giant tablet table, and more! James City County Library
Daily — Story Trail Take a walk outdoors and read a story at the James City County Library’s Story Trail. We invite families to walk from page to page in the green space behind the library. All Day – James City County Library

Feb. 17 – Cabin Fever Carnival Winter weather got you down? It’s a perfect time for a carnival! Join us for an after-hours family party at the library, with homemade mini-golf, magic from Jonathan Austin, a Candyland cakewalk, crafts, and more.

Feb. 8 – Harry Potter Trivia Night Show off your Harry Potter knowledge with other teens age 13-18. Be part of a team or go solo! 6 PM – Stryker Center
Feb. 11 – Super Smash Bros. Tournament Teens come out and take part in a Super Smash Bros. Tournament, show your skills or play with other beginners. 1st place wins a cash prize! For ages 13-18. 1 PM – James City County Library

Feb. 8 – Makerspace Cricut 101 Want to learn the basics of how a Cricut works? Librarian Emma will go over the tools and tips you need to know. Registration not required. 11 AM – James City County Library
Feb. 8 – One Book One Community: Monika Gosin Monika Gosin, chair of the Latin American Studies Department at William & Mary, will talk about the politics, economics, and chaos driving immigrants out of Latin America. The One Book One Community book, The New American, by Micheline Aharonian Marcom, is available for checkout at both libraries, and copies of the audiobook are available for download. WRL’s 4th annual partnership with William & Mary Libraries features book discussions, films, and programs to enhance our reading and understanding of the book. 6:30 PM – Williamsburg Library Theatre
Feb. 9 – One Book One Community: Pub Quiz We’ll provide the food; you provide the answers! Join us for dinner and a quiz on the US Citizenship Test and random bits of US History. Registration required; please call 757.741.3300 to sign up. Teams of up to 4 individuals can register together or be matched with other players on a new team. Participants can play in person 6-8 PM at the James City County Library or via Zoom details here.
Feb. 10 – W&M Ewell and Dewey Decibel Concert Series: Kadencia Kadencia is a 13-piece orchestra founded in Puerto Rico. Kadencia’s music and sounds pay homage and follow the traditions of Plena from Western Puerto Rico. The lyrics of its songs are narrative in nature and describe various aspects of Puerto Rican society, culture, and traditions. Free and open to all ages. No ticket required. 7 PM – Williamsburg Library
Feb. 11 – One Book One Community Book Discussion Join us for a book discussion, in-person at the James City County Library or virtually on Zoom. 2 PM – James City County Library
Feb. 12 – Cultural Heritage Series: Historic First Baptist Church – “Yes We Can!” A presentation by the Church’s history ministry through relics and artifacts from descendants of the First Baptist Church of Williamsburg. Also, meet author Barry Doswell at a book signing in the Williamsburg Library Theatre. 3 PM – Williamsburg Library Theatre
