Child Development Resources Opens New Williamsburg Campus

Nearly five years in the making, Child Development Resources (CDR) officially opened its new 42,000-square-foot campus in Williamsburg on Thursday, June 11, 2026. The ribbon cutting ceremony drew almost 200 community members, donors and elected officials, including York County Board of Supervisors Douglas Holroyd, Virginia State Delegate Jessica Anderson and Virginia State Senator J.D. “Danny” Diggs.

The $13.6 million project consolidates five CDR locations into one campus. The new facility eliminates the need for families to travel between offices and enables staff to collaborate more effectively in providing comprehensive support and services.

The new building is designed to help CDR reach more children and families as well as strengthen partnerships with universities and healthcare organizations to help prepare the next generation of early childhood professionals.

“We know that when families have the tools and resources that they need, they’re better able to meet the challenges of parenting and create stability for their children,” said Carla Javier, Director of Children’s Services for CDR. “And we know that strong families create stronger communities. If you want to invest in something that creates lasting change, not just for today but for generations, you invest in children. That’s what CDR does every day.”

The new facility features an Early Head Start Center with indoor multi age classrooms serving children from birth to age 3. Each classroom accommodates 8 children and 3 teachers as well as volunteers. The center also includes outdoor classrooms and kids play zones. An onsite kitchen provides freshly prepared lunch daily.

Another key features is the Developmental Play Room for children that receive in-home services. This is a time for children to come in and play for two hours a week while parents meet in a separate area.

Additional highlights of the new facility include a Center for Adult Education, observation rooms, toddler assessment rooms, a skills development room, community room for trainings, presentations and expos, and offices designed to promote collaboration among staff.

Established in 1965, Child Development Resources (CDR) is a nationally recognized leader in early childhood intervention and education, and a university-aligned Family Resource Center. CDR provides, among other programming, early intervention therapies for children, educational programming for parents and caregivers, and leads the Virginia-wide network training early childhood education providers for infants and toddlers.

The new CDR facility is located at 312 Waller Mill Road, Williamsburg, Virginia. Learn more about CDR at  cdr.org.
