Celebrate the summer solstice by joining James City County Parks & Recreation for Project: FiveFortySeven, the Longest Day of Play!
June 20 is the longest day of the year. JCC Parks and Recreation will have events staring with the rise and shine sun at 5:47 a.m and going till 11:59 PM*. They are offering free recreational activities and outdoor adventures all day including free access to their outdoor pools, free use of the Recreation Centers, free select group fitness classes and so much more! BUT!!!!! a few of them require registration – so they have a head count – they are still FREE make sure to read the events below and if you have to register – make sure to REGISTER!!

Free Amenity & Facility Access
Bike Rentals | All Ages*
James City County Marina, 2054 Jamestown Road
The James City County Marina’s close proximity to the Colonial Parkway, Historic Jamestown, Jamestown Beach Event Park and the Virginia Capital Trail make it the perfect location to start a leisurely bike ride. Bikes are available first come, first served from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Photo Identification is required for all rentals. Note: Rentals are limited to two hours and exclude e-bikes.
* Renters must be age 18 or older, or have a guardian age 18 or older sign the waiver. Children age 15 and younger must be accompanied by a guardian age 18 or older.
Paddlecraft Rentals | All Ages*

Jamestown Beach Event Park, 2205 Jamestown Road
Enjoy free paddlecraft rentals at three of our waterfront parks. Available rentals include single and tandem kayaks, standup paddleboards (excluding Chickahominy Riverfront Park) and canoes. Paddlecraft are available first come, first served, during normal operating hours and include life jackets. Photo Identification is required for all rentals.
Note: Rentals are limited to two hours.

We are waiving our pool fees for the day! Enjoy free pool access for everyone at both outdoor pools. Take note below of the after-hours pool party taking place at Chickahominy Riverfront Park Pool from 7-8 p.m. Ages 11 & younger require a parent or guardian onsite.

Come visit one or both of our recreation centers. Non-members are able to take advantage of free amenity access to centers including basketball courts, fitness areas and more during normal operating hours.
* The indoor pool will be closed for renovations. Ages 12 & younger must attend with a parent or guardian; must be 16 and older to sign in.

Sunrise Yoga – 5:47-7 a.m. | Ages 14+ (13 & younger with parent/guardian)

Begin your day by aligning your body and breathing in fresh air with your toes in the sand. Bring a yoga mat or a beach towel. All levels are welcome. Registration required.
Cycle & Strength – 7-8 a.m. | Ages 14+
James City County Recreation Center, 5301 Longhill Road
Two in one! Challenge your cardio with 30 minutes of spin sets and end the class with 20 minutes of strength. All levels are welcome. Registration required.
Crabbing 101 – 9-10 a.m. | All Ages
Chickahominy Riverfront Park, 1350 John Tyler Highway
Come out to Chickahominy Riverfront Park’s 300-foot fishing pier to learn the basics of crabbing. Equipment available while supplies last.
Line Dancing – 10 a.m.-noon | All Ages
James City County Recreation Center, 5301 Longhill Road
Line dancing for all ages to participate!
The Fitness Court Orientations – 11 a.m.-1 p.m. | All Ages
Warhill Sports Complex, 4900 Stadium Road
Join us for free Fitness Court Orientations and learn how to maximize your workouts at the outdoor fitness court! Designed for all fitness levels and will introduce you to the seven workout stations, which target different muscle groups for a full-body workout. The Fitness Court is located adjacent to the basketball courts.
Firetruck Duck Drop – Noon | All Ages
Chickahominy Riverfront Park, 1350 John Tyler Highway
Parks & Recreation is teaming up with the Fire Department for the ultimate rubber ducky drop. Join us live or virtually to watch as the ducks take a plunge from the top of one of JCCFD’s ladder trucks. Registration is required and closes on June 13. Concessions Food Truck will also be on site with novelty treats for purchase ($)!

Celebrate National Pollinator Week – 9-11 a.m. | All Ages (12 & younger with parent/guardian)
Veterans Park, 3793 Ironbound Road
Come join us at Veterans Park Pollinator Garden as we learn about the different types of pollinators and what we can do to attract and protect them. There will be plenty of family-friendly activities, including games, exhibits, crafts and take-home projects for kids of all ages.
The Exceptional Games – 1-3 p.m. | Ages 18+ with Disabilities
Abram Frink Jr. Community Center, 8901 Pocahontas Trail
Join us for an afternoon of games and fun! Learn to play pickleball, shoot some hoops or join in a kickball game! Registration required.
Low Impact Zumba – 1-1:45 p.m. | Ages 14+
James City County Recreation Center, 5301 Longhill Road
Experience the joy of dance fitness without the high-intensity impact in a supportive environment, complete with uplifting music and simple, easy-to-follow moves. Stay active, boost your cardiovascular health and celebrate every step—no matter your fitness level. No experience needed. Registration required.
Fruit Archery – 2-4 p.m. | Ages 9+ (16 & younger with parent/guardian)
Upper County Park, 180 Leisure Road
Meet us at Upper County Park to take a shot at watermelons, cantaloupes, apples and more! Recurve and Compound Bows will be available for use while supplies last. No experience required.
Trackless Train Rides – 3-5 p.m. | All Ages (12 & younger with parent/guardian)
Veterans Park, 3793 Ironbound Road
ALL ABOARD for an afternoon adventure! Take a ride on the Kiwanis Kids Trackless Train. Kids and parents alike are welcome to climb aboard. No registration needed.
Scout Naturalist Program – 5:45-6:45 p.m. | All Ages
Chickahominy Riverfront Park, 1350 John Tyler Highway
Earn your scout badges for Naturalist or Animal Habitats. Learn about birds, plants and habitats. This program is geared toward Webelos and Junior Girl Scouts, but all are welcome. Meet at the CRP playground shelter located adjacent to the pool.
Osprey Program – 7-8 p.m. | All Ages
Chickahominy Riverfront Park, 1350 John Tyler Highway
Join us for an opportunity to look down into an Osprey nest along the Chickahominy River. Learn about migration, breeding habits and take a look at the latest brood of Osprey chicks. Meet at the CRP playground shelter located adjacent to the pool. Walking will be required.
After-Hours Pool Party – 7-8 p.m. | All Ages

Join us for an after-hours pool party. Enjoy free pool access, treats and music for all ages while we extend the Longest Day of Play.
Night Hike – 8:30-9:30 p.m. | All Ages
Freedom Park, 5301 Longhill Road
Ever wonder what animals are lurking once the sun goes down? Explore the PARK AFTER DARK during this night hike! After sunset, visitors may only use Multiuse Trail 3; the night hike is a walking loop that starts and ends here. Users must depart the park by 9:30 p.m. and must stay on Trail 3 after sunset.

Capture the Moment Photo Contest – All Day | All Ages
Various Parks & Facilities
Join us for some summer fun in our photo contest for a chance to win our Summer Prize Pack! Throughout the day, we will post different photo categories. Once that category has been posted, leave a comment on Facebook or tag us on Instagram with your photo for that category. Each photo is one entry; multiple entries are welcome! The winner will be announced on Monday, June 23. Locations will vary depending on the photo category. Follow us on Facebook or Instagram to stay up to date with every category posted!
Sensory Friendly Scavenger Hunt – All Day | All Ages

Sensory bags are available to check out with a special Sensory Scavenger Hunt in celebration of the Longest Day of Play. Bags are available at Abram Frink Jr. Community Center, Chickahominy Riverfront Park, Freedom Park, James City County Recreation Center and Veterans Park during normal operating hours.
The Lounge Access – All Day | Ages 55+
