“The Colonial First Ladies” with Feather Schwartz Foster

York Hall
Sunday, November 8 from 2 – 3 pm

The first three First Ladies — Martha Washington, Abigail Adams, and Dolly Madison — were born long before the United States existed.

As mature women, married to arguably the most prominent men of their generation, they became political figures whether they liked it or not. All three were among the most consequential First Ladies in American history. Books will be available for purchase and signing. The lecture is free and open to the public. Seating is limited.

The event is presented by the York County Historical Committee. It is subject to cancellation. If this lecture is cancelled for any reason, notification will be made on the event hotline (757) 890-3520.

About the Speaker:

Feather Schwartz Foster spent more than 35 years in advertising before starting a retirement career that has centered on the First Ladies. She has written five books on the subject, presented regular programs at the Osher Institute of the College of William & Mary for the last fifteen years, and was featured on C-SPAN’s series on the First Ladies.
